Here’s when the new Apple TV 4K drops in 2025

Excited about the new Apple TV 4K? It’s due in fall 2025—here’s what we know about the launch, plus speculation on Siri upgrades and more power.

It’s been a minute since Apple last gave its Apple TV 4K a proper refresh. The current model, which hit shelves in late 2022, brought a faster chip, a sleeker design, and that oh-so-satisfying USB-C Siri Remote. But if you’re like me—someone who’s always itching for the next shiny thing—you’re probably wondering: When’s the next one dropping? Good news, folks: the wait’s almost over.

Apple’s not exactly shouting from the rooftops about this one yet, but thanks to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman—one of the most dialed-in Apple insiders out there—we’ve got a solid lead. In his big 2025 preview earlier this year, Gurman casually dropped that the next-gen Apple TV 4K is “planned for release toward the end of the year.” That’s about as close to a confirmed window as we’re gonna get without Tim Cook sending us a personal invite.

If you’ve followed Apple’s playbook over the years, you know fall is their season to shine. September’s typically reserved for the iPhone extravaganza—new phones, Apple Watches, and maybe some AirPods if we’re lucky. Then October rolls around, and it’s Mac time, often with a side of iPads or other random goodies. Last year, though, Apple mixed it up. Instead of the usual glitzy October event, they staggered their M4 Mac announcements over a few days and shipped them out in early November.

So, where does that leave the Apple TV 4K? Gurman’s “end of the year” hint points to an October reveal, with shipping possibly slipping into November—right in line with how Apple’s handled some of its recent fall launches. That’d put it just shy of three years since the last model debuted in November 2022. Not a bad cadence for a device that doesn’t need annual updates like an iPhone.

Here’s where things get a little fuzzy. Apple’s keeping the details under wraps, and the rumor mill’s been quieter than a library on a Sunday morning. Still, a few tidbits have trickled out from reputable corners of the internet—like Bloomberg and MacRumors—that give us something to chew on.

First up: a new Wi-Fi modem, straight from Apple’s in-house chip wizards. This isn’t just a random spec bump. Apple’s been pouring resources into designing its own networking gear—think faster, more reliable connections that play nice with the growing lineup of HomeKit gadgets. Imagine your Apple TV 4K acting as a souped-up hub for your smart lights, locks, and thermostats, all zipping along with less lag. That’s the dream, at least, and it tracks with Apple’s push to dominate the smart home game.

Then there’s the big buzzword of the moment: Apple Intelligence. Yeah, the AI train’s coming to tvOS—or at least, we hope so. The current Apple TV 4K rocks an A15 Bionic chip, which is no slouch, but it’s not exactly built for the heavy lifting of modern AI workloads. To bring some of that Apple Intelligence magic to your TV screen, the next model will likely need a beefier processor—think A17 Pro (like in the iPhone 15 Pro) or even the A18 from the latest iPhones. More RAM wouldn’t hurt either; the current 4GB is fine for streaming but could use a boost for smarter features.

What kind of AI goodies might we see? Don’t expect ChatGPT-level conversations with your TV just yet. Most of Apple’s current AI tricks—like writing tools or photo editing—are better suited to phones and Macs. But a smarter Siri? That’s a safe bet. Picture this: you ask Siri to “find me a comedy from the ’90s with Jim Carrey,” and it actually nails it without making you repeat yourself three times. Maybe it’ll even pull some cross-device tricks, like picking up where you left off on your iPhone. We’re speculating here, but it’s fun to dream.

Beyond the Wi-Fi upgrade and a potential AI glow-up, the rest is a bit of a mystery. Will the design change? Probably not much—the current Apple TV 4K is already a sleek little black box that blends into your entertainment setup. Could we see a price hike? The 2022 model starts at $129, which feels about right, but if Apple crams in a fancier chip and more RAM, they might nudge it closer to $149. And what about the remote? The USB-C Siri Remote is pretty darn good already—clicky, intuitive, not too easy to lose in the couch cushions—so don’t hold your breath for a major overhaul there.

One thing I’d love is better gaming chops. The Apple TV 4K has always flirted with being a mini gaming console, especially with Apple Arcade in the mix. A more powerful chip could finally make it a legit contender for casual gamers—think smoother graphics for titles like Oceanhorn 2 or even some AAA ports. But Apple’s never fully leaned into that angle, so I’m not getting my hopes up just yet.

Look, the Apple TV 4K isn’t the kind of gadget that gets your heart racing like a new iPhone. It’s a workhorse—quietly delivering crisp 4K HDR streams, slick tvOS navigation, and a seamless tie-in with your other Apple gear. But that’s exactly why this update’s worth watching. If Apple nails the networking upgrades and sprinkles in some AI smarts, it could turn the Apple TV into more than just a streaming box—it’d be the brain of your smart home, a better sidekick for your iPhone, and maybe even a sneaky-good gaming device.

For now, mark your calendars for late fall—October for the hype, November for the unboxing. We’ll keep an eye on the rumor mill as more leaks inevitably spill out. Until then, your current Apple TV 4K is still a champ. But come holiday season 2025, it might just be time to upgrade. Stay tuned.
