LG is using IFA 2026 to put a bigger spotlight on its Micro RGB TV technology, with the company showcasing the Micro RGB evo alongside newer Mini RGB evo models as part of what it describes as its complete premium RGB lineup. The headline feature is color purity: LG says the Micro RGB evo has earned TÜV Rheinland’s “High Purity RGB Spectrum Display” certification for its ability to keep red, green and blue wavelengths distinctly separated.
The flagship model on display is the LG Micro RGB evo MRGB95, an ultra-large 4K LCD TV that uses LG’s proprietary Micro RGB backlight technology. Rather than relying on conventional LED backlighting, the system uses individually controlled red, green and blue light sources to improve color separation and control.
According to LG, the approach allows the display to produce more natural and expressive colors by reducing unwanted mixing between the primary RGB wavelengths. That performance has now been independently evaluated by TÜV Rheinland, which awarded the Micro RGB evo MRGB95 its High Purity RGB Spectrum Display certification. The certification specifically evaluates the TV’s physical and optical ability to maintain high-purity colors without RGB wavelength intermixing.
That certification adds another layer of validation to technology LG has been developing as an alternative to traditional premium LCD approaches. The company previously introduced the Micro RGB evo with Intertek certification for 100% coverage of the BT.2020, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, positioning the display around color reproduction as much as brightness and contrast.
LG isn’t treating Micro RGB as simply a new backlight. The MRGB95 is also powered by the company’s α11 AI Processor Gen3, the same processor platform used in its flagship OLED models.
The processor’s Dual AI Engine analyzes textures and edges simultaneously to help produce more cohesive images. LG also uses its Precision Color Enhancer to maintain the purity of primary colors while refining gradation and tonal transitions.
Micro Dimming Ultra handles the other side of the equation, controlling brightness across thousands of dimming zones to improve contrast and reveal details in both dark and bright areas. Combined with the independent RGB light sources, LG says the processing system is designed to deliver more precise color and contrast across movies, TV shows and games.
The MRGB95 is a 4K 120Hz display with VRR support up to 165Hz on current LG specifications, while its feature set also includes Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, Dynamic Tone Mapping Ultra and AI Super Upscaling 4K.
IFA 2026 is also significant because LG isn’t presenting Micro RGB as a one-off flagship experiment. The company is expanding the technology into a broader RGB TV strategy with its Mini RGB evo models.
LG says the Micro RGB evo MRGB95 and Mini RGB evo models MRGB9M and MRGB85 have received TÜV Rheinland’s High Purity RGB Spectrum Display certification. The Mini RGB models are intended to bring the same basic high-purity RGB concept to a wider range of premium LCD televisions.
The move follows LG’s earlier 2026 launch of its Micro and Mini RGB evo TVs. The flagship Micro RGB evo originally arrived in 100-, 86- and 75-inch sizes, while the newer lineup broadens the technology’s reach beyond the company’s ultra-large flagship category.
In the U.S., LG’s 100-inch Micro RGB evo is already available, with the company positioning it as a premium alternative to its OLED lineup rather than simply another QNED model. LG lists the TV with Micro RGB technology, α11 AI Processor Gen3 and certified triple 100% color coverage.
The significance of the Micro RGB evo is less about replacing OLED and more about giving LG another way to compete at the very high end of the TV market.
OLED remains LG’s flagship display technology, particularly where pixel-level light control and perfect blacks are concerned. Micro RGB takes a different route: it retains an LCD panel while attempting to gain much finer control over the light source itself. LG’s pitch is that independently controlled RGB light can deliver exceptionally pure colors while the company’s AI processing and local dimming technologies handle detail, contrast and image refinement.
That makes the technology particularly interesting for ultra-large screens, where LCD remains a major part of the premium TV market.
At IFA, LG is essentially showing how far that approach can scale. The company says Micro RGB evo represents its highest level of RGB color performance, while Mini RGB evo extends the technology into more accessible premium LCD models.
LG Micro RGB evo is being demonstrated at the company’s booth in Hall 18 at Messe Berlin throughout IFA 2026, which runs from September 4 through September 8.
