Apple has rolled out its first developer beta of iOS 18.2, introducing an array of intriguing new AI-driven tools and deepening its commitment to Apple Intelligence. With this update, developers gain access to innovative features such as “Genmoji,” which allows users to create custom emojis, and “Image Playground,” a new AI tool for generating images on the fly. Another major addition is a ChatGPT integration, which allows users to harness OpenAI’s language model directly on their devices, a collaboration aimed at bringing even more AI functionality to Apple’s ecosystem.

One standout feature is the improved Visual Intelligence, which lets iPhone 16 users utilize the camera for object recognition, similar to Google Lens. This feature is part of Apple’s ongoing initiative to integrate AI into its products, which started with basic updates like Siri enhancements and has now expanded to involve more dynamic, personalized interactions and automation. Apple also extended these tools to other regions, further pushing Apple Intelligence toward a global audience.

Additionally, macOS users are getting some of these new AI tools with the first macOS Sequoia 15.2 beta, although not all features, like Genmoji, have been included just yet. This staggered release follows Apple’s strategy from WWDC 2024, where it introduced Apple Intelligence features in stages, showcasing incremental improvements to Siri and overall device intelligence across various operating systems.
