Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a compact wireless gamepad designed for younger players, people with smaller hands, and gamers who want a more portable controller. Measuring just over 5 inches long and weighing 3.5 ounces, it is the smallest controller in Xbox‘s lineup while retaining the familiar control layout.
Announced on October 14, 2026, the Xbox Nano Controller costs $49.99 in the United States. Preorders are open through the Microsoft Store, and the product is also listed at Amazon and Best Buy. Microsoft plans to begin availability in November across the United States and 35 other markets, with additional regions to follow.
Xbox Nano Controller features a pocket-sized design
The Xbox Nano Controller measures a little over 5 inches in length and weighs just 3.5 ounces, making it shorter and lighter than most modern smartphones. Despite its compact size, the controller retains all 18 standard gameplay inputs in a familiar Xbox layout.

Microsoft designed the Nano Controller for players who want a smaller alternative to a conventional gamepad. Its compact form makes it easier to carry in a pocket or bag, whether for travel, visits with friends and family, or gaming away from the living room.
The controller is also intended for family gaming. Xbox highlights Minecraft Dungeons II, which supports up to four-player cooperative play, and Forza Horizon 6 as examples of games players can enjoy with the accessory.
Rechargeable battery, programmable Action Button, and wireless connectivity
The Xbox Nano Controller includes an internal rechargeable battery, so players do not need to replace AA batteries. However, a USB-C charging cable is sold separately.
It also features a programmable Action Button that players can customize for frequently used functions, including taking screenshots and capturing gameplay.
For connectivity, the controller supports Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth. Xbox Wireless enables connections to compatible Xbox consoles, while Bluetooth supports compatible Windows PCs, tablets, iOS devices, Android devices, and select smart TVs. Compatibility depends on the device and game.
Xbox Nano Controller price and availability
The Xbox Nano Controller costs $49.99 in the United States, with preorders opening on October 14, 2026. It is available through the Microsoft Store, and the product is also listed at Amazon and Best Buy.
Microsoft plans to begin availability in November in 36 markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, and several European countries. More markets will follow, and prices and availability may vary by region.
Microsoft is also partnering with Samsung and Meta for holiday promotions in the United States. Purchases of select Samsung TVs will include an Xbox Nano Controller and two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for new members. A similar offer will accompany select Meta Quest purchases.
The Samsung promotion is designed to help customers play Xbox Game Pass titles through the Xbox app in Samsung TVs’ Gaming Hub, using a compatible controller. The Meta offer similarly bundles the controller and subscription with eligible headset purchases.
A smaller Xbox controller for gaming on the go
At $49.99, the Xbox Nano Controller gives players a more portable alternative to a full-size Xbox gamepad without abandoning its familiar button layout. Its rechargeable battery, programmable Action Button, and support for Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth make it a versatile option for compatible gaming devices.
Its compact size may not suit everyone, particularly players who prefer a larger grip for extended sessions. However, for younger gamers, families, and players who want a controller that takes up less space when traveling, the Nano expands Microsoft’s Xbox accessory lineup with a smaller option.
