Apple’s first foldable iPhone is almost ready to reach customers. The company will open preorders for the iPhone Duo on Friday, October 16, giving buyers their first opportunity to order a device that combines a traditional iPhone-sized outer screen with a much larger display that unfolds for multitasking, gaming, and watching videos.
Preorders begin at 5 am PT (8 am ET) in the United States, with the phone scheduled to arrive in stores and begin reaching customers on Friday, October 23. Apple will offer the iPhone Duo in more than 70 countries and regions at launch, including the United States and India.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the US for the 256GB model. Buyers can also choose 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations, with the top-end model priced at $3,199. The phone comes in two finishes: Night Sky and Star White.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone has two displays
The defining feature of the iPhone Duo is its folding design. When closed, it has a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR outer display intended for everyday tasks, including checking messages and using apps one-handed. Unfolding the device reveals a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display, the largest screen Apple has ever put in an iPhone.

Both displays support ProMotion, Always-On functionality, and peak outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Apple has also applied a nano-texture finish to the inner display to reduce glare and reflections while helping minimize the visibility of the crease.
The design uses a titanium frame and hinge cover, while a camera hidden beneath the inner display keeps the larger screen free of a conventional front-camera cutout. Apple is pitching the device as more than a phone with a bigger screen, highlighting software experiences designed to make better use of the expanded display.
The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27.1 and is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which uses vapor cooling to help sustain performance. Apple also lists a dual-battery system and claims up to 44 hours of video playback when using the outer display, or up to 31 hours when using the inner screen.
Photography is handled by a 48-megapixel Dual Fusion camera system comprising a main camera and an ultra-wide camera. The device also includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage front camera, with features designed to make capturing photos and video calls more flexible when the phone is folded or unfolded.
What buyers need to know before ordering
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, putting it well above Apple’s conventional flagship phones. Here’s how the US pricing breaks down:
- 256GB: $1,999
- 512GB: $2,199
- 1TB: $2,599
- 2TB: $3,199
All four storage options are available in Night Sky and Star White. The US Apple Store also lets customers prepare their preferred configuration ahead of preorder day, helping them move through checkout once ordering opens.
There is one connectivity detail worth checking before placing an order: US iPhone Duo models use eSIM exclusively and do not include a physical SIM tray. Buyers will need a carrier that supports eSIM to activate cellular service. Apple says the device can be used internationally, provided the destination’s carrier supports the necessary eSIM service and network bands.
Apple will also offer dedicated accessories for the foldable phone. The iPhone Duo Case will cost $79 in the US, while the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand will cost $129. Both accessories will be available to order starting October 16.
The preorder window opens Friday, October 16, but buyers won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the device: general availability begins one week later, on October 23.
