If you’re an avid iPhone user and a photography enthusiast, chances are you’re familiar with Camera+, a beloved app that once dominated the landscape of iPhone photography with its impressive manual controls. Now, the creators behind Camera+ are back in the spotlight with their latest creation: Photon – an app designed to cater to professional photographers and unleash the full potential of iPhone camera capabilities.

Photon promises to provide “all the control you need to create powerful professional photos” in the palm of your hand. Building on the success of Camera+ and drawing inspiration from existing alternatives like Halide, this new app offers a plethora of manual adjustment options for refining and controlling your iPhone camera settings before capturing that perfect shot.

With Photon, users can precisely fine-tune focus, exposure (leveraging shutter speed and ISO settings), and white balance, empowering them to exercise complete creative control over their photography process. Moreover, the app comes equipped with advanced tools like Focus Peaking, which intuitively highlights the precise focal points within the frame. Whether you’re an amateur seeking to enhance your skills or a seasoned pro looking for extra precision, Photon has got you covered.

As a testament to its versatility, Photon supports multiple photo formats, including HEIF, JPEG, ProRAW, and RAW. This broad support ensures that users can tailor their photography experience according to their preferences and project requirements, achieving stunning results with ease.

For users fortunate enough to own an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max, Photon introduces the option to toggle between 12-megapixel and 48-megapixel resolutions when using the main wide lens. This feature allows photographers to adapt to various shooting scenarios and produce images that match their vision.

One standout feature of the app is Session Preview. With this innovative tool, photographers gain the ability to swiftly review each photo immediately after capture, enabling them to cull undesirable shots or swiftly share their best works with the world. This efficient workflow enhancement has the potential to significantly streamline the creative process, saving valuable time and effort.

Noël Rosenthal, the esteemed Product Manager at LateNiteSoft, shared insights about the app’s development, stating, “Photon is the product of our more than 10 years of experience in the photography business, without all the baggage. We took the time to rethink every aspect of the shooting experience, considering all of the feedback we’ve received and the impacts of all of our choices in the past. What we have produced is, in our eyes, simply the best, most intuitive, accessible, but powerful way to shoot photos on the iPhone.“

Want to try? The Photon is now available on the App Store. However, it’s worth noting that while the app can be downloaded for free, unlocking the full potential of its manual controls requires a subscription. Users can opt for a $3.99 monthly subscription or a $19.99 annual subscription. Alternatively, a lifetime license can be purchased at a one-time fee of $39.99, granting unlimited access to the app’s premium features.
