Apple today unveiled the iPhone 14 Pro and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max at its “Far out” event on Sept. 7, 2022. Both phones feature “Dynamic Island” to surface alerts and activity in a new way, a brighter display with always-on functionality, the A16 Bionic chip, a more advanced camera system, new color options, and more.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max provide the “Dynamic Island,” thanks to software integration across the system and a redesigned TrueDepth camera array that takes less space. To display important alerts, notifications, and activities from Maps, Music, timers, Live Activities, battery levels, Face ID, and other applications, Dynamic Island adjusts and expands into various shapes in real-time. Additionally, it keeps an active state to enable tap-and-hold access to controls for users.

An upgraded Super Retina XDR display is now up to two times brighter than the one on the iPhone 13 Pro With 2,000 nits of brightness. For the first time, it has always-on display functionality. The display can slow down to a refresh rate of 1Hz, showing iOS 16’s new Lock Screen continuously to provide quick access to the time, widgets, and Live Activities.

The new A16 Bionic chip is the first Apple Silicon chip for iPhone created using a 4nm fabrication process featuring 16 billion transistors. Apple uses two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores while the company says the new six-core CPU can easily handle the demanding workloads. This new chip provides 5-core GPU with 50% more memory bandwidth and a new 16-core Neural Engine.

The A16 Bionic chip supports the pro camera system and computational photography features on the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple claims that the new camera hardware is supported by a cooperative effort between the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, and image signal processor (ISP), which can carry out up to four trillion operations for each image.

The A16 Bionic offers Action Mode to more smoothly stabilized video as well as the Photonic Engine to apply Deep Fusion early in the image process and enhance low-light performance across all of the device’s cameras. Action mode is also now available in 4K at 24 fps and 30 fps.

A 48-megapixel Wide camera with a 65 percent larger quad-pixel sensor and second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization is part of the rear camera system. As a result of the quad-pixel sensor’s ability to merge every four pixels into a single huge quad pixel measuring 2.44 µm, resulting in enhanced low-light capture and 12MP photo sizes. ProRAW is the sensor’s preferred format.

In addition to the 3x from the real Telephoto camera, the 48-megapixel Wide camera offers a new 2x telephoto viewpoint and is capable of recording 4K video without using digital zoom. The Ultra Wide camera is also improved. A new adaptive back flash with nine LEDs has up to three times better uniformity and is up to twice as bright.

Additionally, the iPhone 14 Pro has a new dual-core accelerometer with Crash Detection, a better front-facing camera with an ƒ/1.9 aperture and autofocus, and Emergency SOS with satellite connectivity. When the cellular connection is unavailable, emergency SOS via satellite enables customers to connect directly to a satellite and communicate with emergency services. Even when a cellular or Wi-Fi connection is unavailable, users can manually communicate their location with Find My over satellite.

The new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are available in new color choices: Space Black, Deep Purple, Silver, and Gold. Note that Apple has removed the SIM card tray from all iPhone 14 lineups only in the United States, which means costumes who lived in the USA have only the eSIM option.
