Apple discontinues the iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max following the iPhone 16 launch

The second phone is partially visible behind the first, showing only its front face with a large screen and a notch at the top for sensors and speaker. Both phones have rounded corners and are positioned to showcase their design features.

Apple’s latest “It’s Glowtime” event brought the usual excitement around shiny new devices, but as the spotlight shifted to the iPhone 16 lineup, it also marked the end of the road for three familiar models.

This week, Apple unveiled four new iPhones: the iPhone 16 (and 16 Plus) and iPhone 16 Pro models. And as it does every year, the tech giant retired some of its older phones to make way for the newcomers. The iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are officially out of Apple’s lineup.

Now, if you’re a fan of those older models, don’t panic just yet. You’ll still find the iPhone 13 and the recently axed iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max hanging around in third-party stores for a while. In fact, if you’re on the hunt for a deal, you might even score a nice discount. Even though Apple isn’t selling them directly anymore, they’re still supported. Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 will be compatible with models as old as the 2018 iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, so your iPhone 13 and iPhone 15 Pro will stay up to date for a good while.

But if you’ve got your heart set on Apple’s next big leap — Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-powered software — there’s a catch. It’s only going to be available on the latest iPhone 16 models and the iPhone 15 Pro series. None of the older iPhones will support this feature, so it might be something to consider if you’re weighing your upgrade options.

Speaking of the new iPhones, they’ll hit the shelves this Friday, September 13, with the first orders shipping out a week later. What’s new in the iPhone 16? Well, apart from a fresh set of colors, the latest devices pack Apple’s new chips, improved cameras (which is always a big draw), and a cool new feature called Camera Control. Plus, the Pro models have bigger displays for those who like their screens super-sized.

Of course, it wasn’t just about iPhones at this event. Apple also introduced the Apple Watch Series 10 and the fourth-gen AirPods. They even gave a slight upgrade to the Apple Watch Ultra 2, AirPods Max, and AirPods Pro 2. So, whether you’re into phones, watches, or earbuds, there’s something new to check out.

So, if you’ve been holding onto an iPhone 13 or one of the now-retired iPhone 15 Pro models, now might be the time to grab one while you still can or start thinking about that iPhone 16 upgrade.
