Apple‘s yearly fall product launch event is like Christmas morning for tech enthusiasts. This year, while it may not have been packed with as many surprises as usual, it still delivered some major headlines. At their “Wonderlust” event, Apple unveiled four iPhone 15 models and the big twist? They’ve waved goodbye to the Lightning charging port in favor of the universal USB-C. And the two new Apple Watches and a fresh pair of AirPods Pro are also joining the USB-C party.

iPhone 15 and 15 Plus: Bigger and Better

Leading the charge are the iPhone 15 and its larger sibling, the iPhone 15 Plus. These come with bigger displays, measuring 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively. Powering these beauties is Apple’s A16 Bionic chip, promising faster performance and multitasking. But what really catches your eye is the Dynamic Island display cutout, previously reserved for the pricier models. It’s where the camera, depth sensors, active calls, and more come to life. It’s not just a pretty feature; it’s practical.

The cameras get a major boost with an f/1.6 48-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The screen also gets an upgrade with the Ceramic Shield and a peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. But the headline news? The switch from the Lightning port to USB-C. Finally, all your devices can use the same cable.

Apple is also stepping up its sustainability game with the iPhone 15 series. The frames are made of 75% recycled aluminum, the internals use 100% recycled copper, and even the battery uses 100% recycled cobalt.

Expect these iPhones to come in some stunning colors: pink, yellow, green, blue, and classic black. Prices start at $800, and preorders begin on September 15, with the phones hitting the shelves on September 22.

iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max: Premium Titanium & Action Button

If you’re looking for a premium feel, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max might be more your style. They ditch stainless steel for titanium frames, making them lighter and more resistant to smudges. Despite the similar dimensions to their predecessors, these models sport a thinner bezel, offering more screen real estate.

One standout feature is the revamped ring/silent switch, now an action button. It’s not just for silencing your phone; you can customize it to launch the camera or start voice memos. These Pros run on the A17 Pro chip, dubbed the “fastest chip ever on any smartphone.” The camera improvements continue with reduced lens flare and custom focal-length settings.

But, like their smaller siblings, the big change is the move to USB-C. Plus, they’re getting a new video feature for spatial videos, perfect for Apple’s upcoming headset.

Prices start at $1,000 for the iPhone 15 Pro and $1,200 for the Pro Max with 256 GB of storage. Preorders open on Friday, and you can snag one on September 22.

Apple Watch Series 9

The Apple Watch Series 9 gets an upgrade with the new S9 watch chip, promising super smooth animations and faster Siri responses. Siri now processes requests on the watch itself for quicker responses. There’s also a cool new double-tap gesture for handy shortcuts.

The Series 9 boasts a brighter screen and a second-generation ultra-wideband chip, perfect for tracking down your misplaced iPhone (if it’s nearby). It comes in five aluminum shades and stainless steel options. Plus, Apple is making eco-friendly moves by phasing out leather accessories and introducing FineWoven bands made from recycled materials.

Pricing starts at $400 for the Bluetooth/GPS model and $500 for the cellular version, available on September 22, with preorders open now.

Apple Watch Ultra 2

Joining the Series 9 is the Apple Watch Ultra 2, with the same S9 chip and the double-tap gesture. It boasts an even brighter display, new watch faces, and cycling features. Battery life remains consistent, making it a solid choice for those on the move.

Starting at $800, you can preorder the Ultra 2 today, and it’s available on September 22.

USB-C AirPods Pro and EarPods

Apple is all about embracing the future, and that includes a new version of the second-gen AirPods Pro with a USB-C carrying case. They’re also updating their wired EarPods to use USB-C instead of the Lightning port. It’s a step toward universal connectivity, making your life a little easier. Will be available from September 22, preorder now.

Release Dates for Upcoming Software Updates

Lastly, Apple announced the release dates for its upcoming software updates. iOS 17, watchOS 10, and iPadOS 17 drop on September 18, while macOS Sonoma is set for September 26. These updates promise to bring a host of new features and enhancements to your Apple devices, making your experience even better.

Apple’s Wonderlust event was a showcase of innovation, design, and sustainability. With the iPhone 15 series, the Pro models, and the new Apple Watches, Apple has something for everyone. The move to USB-C is a game-changer, and with these upcoming software updates, your Apple devices are about to get even smarter.
