At the tail end of Samsung‘s latest Galaxy Unpacked event, amidst a flurry of AI-powered announcements and the unveiling of the Galaxy S25 series, the tech giant left the audience with one last surprise: a teaser for the Galaxy S25 Edge. This device promises to redefine what Slim means for smartphones in 2025.

The tease and what we know

The teaser was brief, almost a whisper in the cacophony of tech news – a silhouette of a phone so thin it seemed barely there. Samsung’s voiceover was tantalizingly vague, describing the Galaxy S25 Edge as “a culmination of our most innovative technology,” emphasizing its sleek design. While we didn’t get to see much, glimpses of internal components like a vapor chamber, camera modules, and metallic frames were shown, hinting at a robust build despite its slim profile.

The display highlights a detailed breakdown of parts, including the motherboard, camera modules, frame, battery, and other hardware elements. The components are arranged in an organized grid against a white background on a large, curved screen, emphasizing precision engineering and modularity. The audience seating is visible in the dimly lit foreground.

However, Samsung kept details sparse, not even hinting at a release date during the event. But, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, we can expect the Galaxy S25 Edge to hit the U.S. and other markets by mid-2025. The device is poised to incorporate some of the same tech found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, suggesting that while it’s slimmer, it won’t skimp on performance or features. On the pricing front, Bloomberg notes that Samsung hasn’t finalized the cost yet, but it’s confirmed to be less than the $1,299 starting price of the S25 Ultra.

Design and expectations

From the teaser, it’s clear the Galaxy S25 Edge is all about minimalism in design. The device seems to have followed the aesthetic of its siblings in the S25 lineup but with a focus on being exceptionally thin. Posts on X (formerly Twitter) from tech enthusiasts and leakers like @TheGalox_ and @Sudhanshu1414 have shown images and renders suggesting a dual-camera setup, possibly with a main and an ultra-wide lens, encased in an oval-shaped camera module. This is a departure from the triple-camera arrangement seen in other S25 models, likely a concession to maintain that slender profile.

The slim smartphone race

Samsung isn’t the only player betting big on thinness. Apple is rumored to be working on an iPhone 17 “Air”, which would directly compete with Samsung’s new offering by focusing on a similar ultra-slim design philosophy. This move signals a potential trend in 2025 where the thickness of a phone could be as much a selling point as its processing power or camera quality.

What this means for consumers

For consumers, the Galaxy S25 Edge represents a blend of aesthetics and functionality. If you’re someone who values design and prefers a phone that can slip into your pocket almost unnoticed, this could be the device for you. However, thinness often comes with trade-offs like battery life or component size, so it’ll be interesting to see how Samsung balances these aspects.

Looking forward

As we await more concrete details on the Galaxy S25 Edge, the anticipation builds. Will it sacrifice battery life for beauty? Can it maintain the power and features of the Ultra while being significantly thinner? These are questions Samsung will need to answer, likely at another Unpacked event or through official releases in the coming months.

For now, the Galaxy S25 Edge remains a sleek shadow on the horizon of smartphone innovation, promising to be a device where less might just be more.
