YouTube Music has added a new feature that allows users to auto-download their recently played songs on Android. This update is exclusive to premium subscribers and can be accessed by toggling the “Recently played songs” feature in Settings > Downloads & storage.

It is important to note that this feature is independent of the existing “Smart downloads” feature, which can store up to 500 songs and is based on music that the app deems to be favorites. Although there is no dedicated playlist for recently played songs, they can be accessed by using the “Downloads” app shortcut after long-pressing the home screen icon.
The new feature was first mentioned in YouTube Music’s February 2023 New Features Highlights, with Google stating that it was introduced in mid-January. However, it is only now seeing wide availability on Android.
While this feature is currently exclusive to Android, YouTube Music’s New Features touts the launch of Smart Downloads for iPhone and iPad earlier this year, as well as “bug fixes” on Android. It is possible that the recently played songs feature will be added to iOS in the near future.
Google has also confirmed the launch of Live, Cover, and Remix labels under Other Performances in the Related tab of Now Playing and in search results. This addition will help users find related content more easily.
