Motorola has found a new way to make its already distinctive Razr flip phone even harder to ignore.

The company has unveiled the 2026 Motorola Razr with Crystals by Swarovski, a special-edition foldable that takes the familiar Razr design and gives it a decidedly more glamorous makeover. Part of Motorola’s Brilliant Collection, the new model combines a dark PANTONE Meteorite finish with 35 Swarovski crystals, a larger crystal on the hinge, and a quilted, leather-inspired texture.

It’s not a radically different Razr underneath all that sparkle. And that’s kind of the point.

Rather than treating the phone as a technological showcase, Motorola is leaning heavily into the idea that a smartphone can also be a fashion accessory — something you choose because it says a little something about your personal style.

The new Razr was announced on September 3, ahead of its U.S. launch. It will be available from Motorola.com and Amazon beginning September 10 for $899.99, followed by Verizon availability on September 24.

At first glance, the biggest change is obvious: crystals.

Motorola has covered the device in 35 hand-positioned Swarovski crystals in Silver Night, carefully arranged against the phone’s dark PANTONE Meteorite exterior. The result is considerably more restrained than simply covering the entire phone in glitter. The deep color provides a dark backdrop, allowing the individual crystals to catch the light as the phone moves.

Then there’s the hinge.

Motorola has placed a larger 32-facet Swarovski crystal on the hinge, an unusually prominent detail that makes sense for a phone whose defining characteristic is the act of opening and closing. Every time the Razr flips open, that crystal is effectively part of the show.

The back of the phone also gets a 3D quilted, leather-inspired texture. It gives the handset a softer, more tactile appearance than the typical glass-and-metal smartphone and helps reinforce Motorola’s attempt to position the Razr somewhere between consumer electronics and a luxury accessory.

Motorola is even including a clear protective case in the box so owners can protect the phone without completely hiding the design. The company notes that the case is available in select regions.

And honestly, the choice of the Meteorite finish may be one of the smartest parts of the design.

Motorola has used Pantone color expertise extensively across its recent smartphone lineup, but this time the company has deliberately chosen a relatively understated color. Instead of competing with the Swarovski crystals, the dark surface gives them room to stand out. It makes the phone feel more like an evening accessory than a conventional smartphone with decorations stuck onto it.

That fits neatly into Motorola’s broader Brilliant Collection strategy.

Motorola introduced the Brilliant Collection in 2025 as a collaboration with Swarovski, initially pairing crystal-adorned Razr hardware with the moto buds loop. The company described the collection as part of a wider effort to bring together technology, craftsmanship, fashion and lifestyle design.

The 2026 Razr continues that idea, but the styling has a slightly different personality. The previous Swarovski Razr used a much lighter PANTONE Ice Melt finish, while this year’s Meteorite treatment is darker and more subdued. The crystals consequently become the visual centerpiece rather than one element of a brighter overall color scheme.

Underneath, however, this is still very much the 2026 Razr.

The phone has a 3.6-inch external display that can handle considerably more than simply showing notifications. Motorola says users can run full apps, reply to messages and handle everyday tasks without opening the phone. Once unfolded, the device reveals a 6.9-inch Extreme AMOLED display.

There’s also a dual 50-megapixel camera system, along with Motorola’s collection of AI-powered features. The battery has a typical capacity of 4,800mAh, with Motorola claiming more than 36 hours of battery life under its tested mixed-use conditions. As always with battery-life claims, actual results will depend on factors such as network conditions, settings, temperature and how the phone is used.

Motorola’s fine print also clarifies that the 4,800mAh figure is the typical capacity, while the rated capacity is 4,610mAh. The company says the ultrawide camera uses pixel binning to produce an effective 12.5-megapixel image resolution.

What you don’t get is a dramatically different specification sheet in exchange for the crystals.

That distinction is important because the Swarovski Razr isn’t really meant to compete with another phone on processing power or camera hardware. Motorola is selling the same fundamental Razr experience to someone who wants something more visually distinctive.

And there’s a surprisingly straightforward argument for that.

Smartphones have become increasingly homogeneous. Even expensive models tend to converge on similar glass slabs, camera bumps and muted colors. Foldables have helped break that pattern somewhat, but Motorola has been particularly aggressive about treating the Razr as a fashion object rather than simply a phone that happens to fold.

The Swarovski edition pushes that philosophy to its logical extreme.

It’s also worth noting that the price is not as outrageous as the appearance might suggest. In the U.S., Motorola is asking $899.99 for the Swarovski model. That makes it $100 more expensive than the standard 2026 Razr, according to recent reporting, while actually making this year’s Swarovski edition $100 cheaper than Motorola’s previous crystal-covered Razr.

That makes the premium fairly easy to understand. You’re not paying thousands of dollars for a bespoke luxury phone. You’re paying an extra $100 for a standard Razr transformed into a much more conspicuous fashion piece.

Whether that sounds reasonable probably depends on why you’re buying a foldable in the first place.

For someone who sees the Razr primarily as a practical smartphone that happens to fold, the standard model makes considerably more sense. The crystals don’t make the screen better, the cameras more capable or the battery last longer.

But for someone attracted to the Razr precisely because it looks different from every other smartphone, the Swarovski edition makes a strange amount of sense.

The flip-phone format already creates a certain theatrical quality. There’s something inherently satisfying about closing the phone with a snap, putting it away, and then opening it again when you need it. Motorola is simply adding a bit more drama to that interaction.

The hinge crystal might be the clearest example. On most foldables, the hinge is an engineering necessity that manufacturers try to make visually unobtrusive. On this Razr, Motorola has turned it into one of the design’s main attractions.

It’s a small detail, but it says a lot about what the company is trying to accomplish.

Motorola isn’t hiding the technology. It’s decorating it.

That approach also helps explain why the Brilliant Collection exists in the first place. The company has increasingly positioned certain devices around collaborations with brands and designers rather than treating every product purely as a specification-driven purchase. Its ongoing relationship with Pantone gives Motorola a way to make color part of the product story, while Swarovski adds another layer of visual identity and craftsmanship.

The new Razr is perhaps the clearest expression of that strategy yet.

There is, of course, a practical question hanging over all this sparkle: how well will those crystals hold up to everyday use?

Motorola has included the transparent case specifically so owners can protect the design, but the whole appeal of this phone is being able to see it. That creates an interesting tension. The more carefully you protect the phone, the more you potentially put a layer between yourself and the design you paid extra for.

Still, that’s a luxury-accessory problem rather than a technical one.

And that may be the most revealing thing about this Razr. Motorola isn’t pretending the Swarovski treatment is going to make the phone fundamentally better. Instead, it is acknowledging that people don’t always buy premium products strictly because they’re technically superior.

Sometimes they buy them because they like how they look.

Sometimes they want something that feels personal.

And sometimes, apparently, they want their phone to sparkle every time they flip it open.

The Motorola Razr with Crystals by Swarovski will arrive in the U.S. on September 10 through Motorola.com and Amazon for $899.99, with Verizon following on September 24. Pricing can vary by sales channel.

For Motorola, it’s another step toward making the Razr something more than a nostalgic revival of the classic flip phone. The modern Razr has become a canvas for fashion, color and collaborations, and this latest version takes that idea further than most.

It may not be the Razr for everyone.

But if the goal is to make a smartphone that catches the light — and quite possibly a few eyes — Motorola has nailed the assignment.
