Yesterday, the SsangYong Musso has won the ‘Best Pick-up Payload’ category in 2022 What Car? Car of the Year Awards. The Car of the Year Awards is given out annually. Last night, the glamorous award presentation took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London.

The Musso, which has won numerous awards, is based on the same architecture as the brand’s flagship Rexton. Its body-on-frame construction makes for a very sturdy vehicle with great off-road driving performance and safety thanks to its quad-frame and four-wheel-drive system.

Musso is a capable multi-purpose truck that defines SsangYong values: well-equipped, with a class-leading 7-year/150,000-mile guarantee and a value-for-money package, as well as a surprising level of interior refinement and excellent infotainment.

The pickup is powered by the same e-XDi220 engine used in the Rexton, which produces 181 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 420Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,600 rpm. It comes with a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

Steve Huntingford, editor of What Car?, said; “If you need a workhorse, underestimate the Musso at your peril: its pulling power far exceeds that of much pricier rivals, and even with its full payload on board, it’s capable of towing a 3.5-tonne braked trailer. This is all the more impressive when you consider that its payload limit is higher than any rivals. And yet behind all that brawn is a pleasantly finished interior with loads of space inside for your passengers.”

The SUV-based Musso blends a five-seat crew-cab body type with a workman-like load deck that can hold a full-sized Euro pallet plus some. It also has the highest total load capacity in the sector, with a payload of over 1 tonne and the ability to tow trailers weighing up to 3.5 tonnes at the same time.

Musso is an excellent combination of functionality, practicality, performance, and comfort for the driver and his or her family or coworkers, thanks to its combination of utility pick-up and SUV.

Kevin Griffin, managing director of SsangYong Motor UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win a What Car? award for Musso three years in a row. Such recognition from What Car? speaks volumes about the Musso range. This is a great result that not only fully endorses the qualities and capabilities of the Musso but also the brand’s value for money proposition.”

Inside, the Musso is particularly well equipped compared to other pickups, and in addition to providing good shoulder and legroom in the front and rear, the top-of-the-line model features Nappa leather seats for enhanced luxury and comfort. All models have DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity, and all but the entry-level model have a cutting-edge infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
