For the first time in years, some iPhones won’t receive Apple‘s new iOS 16 operating system, which is about to be released this month. If users want Apple’s most recent iOS version, some iPhone owners will soon need to replace their devices. The US tech giant is almost expected to release iOS 16 this month, but this ground-breaking software update, which comes with a brand-new Lock Screen and improved messaging, isn’t compatible with the same range of devices that run iOS 15 at the moment.

The list starting with iPod Touch and five other iPhones including the original iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus will no longer be compatible with this upgrade when it becomes available. This is the first time in years that Apple has excluded devices from its yearly software upgrades, but those who will lose out on iOS 16.

If you currently own one of the phones on the list above and want the newest features, you’ll need to upgrade, but next week, that upgrade might seem a little more interesting.

Apple is holding a major launch event on September 7 where the firm is expected to reveal its new iPhone 14 range. These devices look set to get an improved processor, faster charging and even the option to have an always-on screen displayed.

The invite sent out to media also includes the tease “Far out” and an image of the night sky which suggests that evening photography along the iPhone’s zoom could be getting an upgrade.

The new Lock Screen is undoubtedly the most exciting update coming to iOS 16. iPhone customers may completely customize how things look before the screen is unlocked thanks to Apple’s revamped display.

After iOS 16 is updated, users can change the fonts, colors, and styles as well as move elements around to match their preferences.

Messages just got better

Users can edit their texts in iOS 16. With this upgrade, users have the option to edit their text after it has been sent, and they have 15 minutes to do so. There will be the option to entirely undo and recall a message in addition to full editing.

Fitness app

Many helpful features are coming with iOS 16, one of which is the ability to use the Fitness app without an Apple Watch. This means, your steps and distance can be tracked using the iPhone’s motion sensors, and an estimation of your calories can be shown on the screen thereafter.

Also, the capability of tracking medications is yet another beneficial health feature coming to phones. With iOS 16, you can add every tablet you use to the Health app, and reminders will appear when it’s time to take them.

This month’s iPhone 14 & other products event schedule

There is more and we will find out full details at Apple’s biggest event of the year which kicks off on Sept. 7th, 2022 at 10:00 am PT/1:00 pm ET/10:30 pm IST.

We expect that the release date for the iOS 16 upgrade will also be announced on September 7 during the live event, and below are some of the new features that will be included in this new operating system.
