Hey Xbox fans, you can now play your favorite Xbox games directly on your Fire TV Stick! Microsoft recently launched Xbox Cloud Gaming on certain Fire TV devices in June 2024, and in late August, it expanded to additional Fire TV devices, including support for Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen) and the Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen). This means you can stream a variety of games such as Starfield, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Forza Horizon 5 without needing your Xbox console.

Wait, not every Fire TV Stick works

Before you jump on the hype train, there’s a catch. Not all Fire TV Sticks are created equal. Here’s the eligible Amazon Fire TV Stick devices:

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen)
  • Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen)
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023 release)
  • Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023 release)

If your Fire TV model isn’t on this list, you’re out of luck for now. But hey, some Samsung Smart TVs already have the Xbox app, so you might be good to go without a separate Fire TV Stick!

Here’s how to play Xbox games on Fire TV Stick 4K/4K Max

Alright, confirmed you have the right Fire TV Stick? Now let’s get you ready to game:

  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Get this, because the normal Xbox Game Pass doesn’t include cloud gaming. (Side note: the Xbox Game Pass prices are going up in September 2024, so factor that in!)
  • Strong Wi-Fi: Since you’re streaming games, internet speed matters. Laggy gameplay and pixelated graphics are no fun, so make sure your Wi-Fi is up to snuff.
  • Wireless gaming controller: Dust off your Xbox Wireless Controller or grab a PlayStation DualSense or DualShock 4 controller (they work too!). You’ll need to pair it with your Fire TV Stick in the settings.

Let’s play!

Ready to unleash your inner gamer? Here’s how to get started in a few quick steps:

  1. Download the app: Head to the Amazon Appstore and grab the Xbox app.
  2. Sign in: Use your Microsoft account to log in to the app.
  3. Pair your gaming controller: Go to Fire TV settings, find “Controllers and Bluetooth,” and pair your wireless gaming controller.

Boom! You’re all set to explore the Xbox Cloud Gaming library and play your favorite Xbox games on the big screen. Just remember, a good internet connection is your best friend for smooth, lag-free gaming. Now get out there and conquer those virtual worlds!

Update August 27th: The article has been updated with information about the expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming to more Fire TV devices, including support for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Gen) and the Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen). These devices have been added to the supported list.
