HBO has officially announced the next Game of Thrones spin-off series, confirming that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere in late 2025.
The news came directly from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav during the company’s recent earnings call. “George R.R. Martin is in pre-production for the new spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will premiere in late 2025 on Max,” Zaslav revealed.
While an exact premiere date wasn’t provided, the late 2025 timeframe gives Game of Thrones fans something to look forward to after House of the Dragon wraps up its second season expected in mid-2024.
Based on Martin’s ‘Dunk and Egg’ novellas, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be set roughly 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows Ser Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon Targaryen on various adventures throughout the Seven Kingdoms.
The series promises to showcase the Seven Kingdoms during the Targaryen dynasty when dragons hadn’t yet gone extinct. Fans can expect to see the grandeur of Westeros brought to life through new characters and storylines separate from the Game of Thrones narrative.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms serves as part of an expanding TV universe based on Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire works. An animated Game of Thrones series is also said to be in early development as HBO looks to further capitalize on the enduring popularity of the fantasy franchise.
While plot details remain under wraps, the first footage of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will likely drop within the next couple of years. For now, Game of Thrones devotees can look forward to more dragon-fueled drama when House of the Dragon returns for season 2 in 2024.
