Apple‘s annual developer conference, WWDC, kicked off this week with the unveiling of iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence, and the tech world has been buzzing ever since. A major focus this year was Apple’s foray into the world of artificial intelligence, aiming to transform iPhones into truly intelligent devices. Naturally, everyone has an opinion, and even Steve Wozniak, the legendary co-founder of Apple, has weighed in.

Free from the constraints of being a current Apple employee, Wozniak offered a more skeptical perspective on Apple Intelligence in a recent interview with Bloomberg. While acknowledging the impressive demos presented during the keynote, he expressed a wait-and-see approach before jumping on the hype train.

Wozniak’s primary concern lies in the real-world application of these features. He wants to see how Apple Intelligence performs on everyday devices, using real user data. After all, polished demos are great for presentations, but true functionality comes from practical use.

Despite his reservations, Wozniak did acknowledge the positive aspects of Apple’s presentation. He commended Apple for the “major steps” showcased during the unveiling, and expressed genuine interest in the software’s potential.

However, Wozniak emphasized the importance of user experience. He believes people should have the chance to experiment with these new features firsthand to determine their effectiveness. This sentiment is particularly relevant as Apple Intelligence is currently absent from the iOS 18 developer beta, which only registered developers have access to at this time.

The wait for a more complete picture continues. Apple Intelligence remains unavailable on any of the company’s software updates across different platforms. We’ll have to hold our horses until this fall to witness the true capabilities of Apple Intelligence and see if it lives up to the excitement generated by the initial demos.
