Apple sets WWDC 2025 for June 9th-13th

Get ready for WWDC 2025 on June 9th! iOS 19’s design refresh, Siri’s delayed AI upgrades, and potential Mac hardware—here’s everything Apple might unveil.

The letters "WWDC" are displayed in a gradient rainbow color scheme from green to yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple, with "25" written in a faded, translucent white beneath it. Mark your calendars, folks—Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is officially set to kick off on June 9th with an in-person keynote and Platforms State of the Union, running through June 13th. It’s the tech giant’s annual pilgrimage where they roll out the red carpet for the next big updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. And if the rumor mill is anything to go by, this year’s show might just steal the spotlight with some major design overhauls, AI-powered Siri upgrades, and maybe even a shiny new gadget or two.

Let’s start with the software, because that’s the bread and butter of WWDC. Apple’s been dropping hints—well, more like carefully curated teasers—about what’s coming for its operating systems. Word on the street, courtesy of Bloomberg’s ever-reliable Mark Gurman, is that iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and the next macOS (likely named after some picturesque California locale—any guesses?) are getting a serious facelift. Think redesigned icons, slicker menus, and buttons that finally play nice across all your Apple devices. It’s about time, right? After years of tweaking the same flat design language, Apple seems ready to shake things up visually, aiming for a more cohesive look whether you’re tapping on your iPhone, swiping on your iPad, or clicking away on your MacBook.

But it’s not just about pretty pixels. Apple’s also got its sights set on artificial intelligence, and all eyes are on Siri. Last year’s WWDC gave us a taste of “Apple Intelligence,” a fancy umbrella term for a suite of AI-driven features that promised to make Siri less of a glorified alarm-setter and more of a legit personal assistant. We’re talking next-level stuff: Siri seeing what’s on your screen and acting on it, digging deeper into your apps, and understanding the context of your life—like knowing you’re asking about “dinner plans” because you’ve got a restaurant reservation in your calendar. Cool, right? Except… it’s not here yet. Apple spokesperson Jacqueline Roy recently told Daring Fireball’s John Gruber that these advanced Siri features are taking “longer than we thought” and won’t fully roll out until sometime in 2025. Fingers crossed we’ll get a concrete timeline at WWDC—maybe even a demo to tide us over.

The delay’s got some folks speculating about what’s going on behind the scenes. Gurman’s reporting suggests Siri’s big conversational glow-up might not hit until iOS 20 “at best,” which feels like a lifetime away in tech years. There’s even been a shake-up in Apple’s leadership on this front—John Giannandrea, the AI guru who’s been steering the ship, has reportedly been swapped out for Mike Rockwell, the guy who brought us the Vision Pro. Could this mean Siri’s future is tied to Apple’s mixed-reality ambitions? Or is it just a sign that Cupertino’s scrambling to get its AI act together while ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini keep raising the bar? Either way, WWDC 2025 feels like a make-or-break moment for Apple to prove it’s still in the AI game.

And then there’s the hardware question. WWDC isn’t traditionally a gadget-fest— that’s more the iPhone launch’s territory—but Apple’s been known to sneak in a surprise or two. Remember 2023? We got the jaw-dropping Apple Vision Pro reveal, the M2 chip debut, and a couple of new Macs to drool over (15-inch MacBook Air and Mac Studio). This year’s already been busy on the hardware front: 2025 kicked off with refreshed iPad Airs, MacBook Airs, and a beefy Mac Studio, not to mention the iPhone 16E (that “E” still has me scratching my head—Enhanced? Eco-friendly? Who knows?). But Gurman’s got his ear to the ground, and he’s betting we might see a revamped Mac Pro and second-gen AirTags drop mid-year. Could WWDC be the stage for that? It’s not a stretch—Apple loves a good “one more thing” moment.

There’s also chatter about a new smart display in the works, something to rival Amazon’s Echo Show or Google’s Nest Hub. It’s supposedly been held up by those same Siri delays, but if Apple’s ready to talk AI at WWDC, maybe we’ll get a peek at this mystery device too. Imagine a HomePod with a screen, powered by a smarter Siri, controlling your smart home and pulling up recipes while you cook. I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

So, what’s the vibe heading into WWDC 2025? It’s a mix of excitement and cautious optimism. Apple’s got a lot to prove—its software needs to stay fresh, its AI game needs to catch up, and its hardware lineup could use a little spice. June 9th is just around the corner (well, a couple of months from now), and whether you’re a developer itching to dig into new APIs or just a fan waiting for the next big thing, it’s a date worth circling.
