Apple is gearing up for what could be an exciting start to 2025 with rumors swirling around the launch of its 11th-generation iPad. While Apple has kept its cards close to the chest, leaks and reports suggest that this new entry-level iPad might hit the market sooner than expected, potentially alongside the release of iPadOS 18.3.

Launch timeline and expectations

According to 9to5Mac, the 11th-generation iPad is set to make its debut in early 2025, possibly in late January, which contrasts with earlier predictions by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman who suggested a March release. This shift in the timeline could mean consumers are in for a quick surprise if these reports hold true. The urgency of this launch might be linked to the rollout of iPadOS 18.3, with the first beta version having already been released to developers late last week, indicating that a public release is on the horizon.

Hardware and features

While specifics on the iPad 11’s features remain somewhat under wraps, there’s a buzz about significant hardware upgrades. One of the most intriguing rumors is about Apple’s own modem technology. The new iPad could offer both Wi-Fi and 5G connectivity, a move that would enhance the device’s versatility for users on the go. This modem has reportedly been in development, with an earlier iPad model equipped with the A14 chip serving as a testbed for this technology, though it’s confirmed that this won’t make it to the final product. What to expect from design and specs

While the design might not see drastic changes, following Apple’s trend of evolutionary rather than revolutionary updates for its entry-level iPads, there’s an expectation for some internal enhancements. Drawing parallels from the 2024 iPad mini, we might see similar specs like an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display, though the 11th-gen iPad is likely to retain its 10.9-inch screen. The A17 Pro chip would be a step up, offering better performance metrics with enhanced graphics capabilities.
