Apple’s entry into the AI realm, called Apple Intelligence, is here and available on the latest iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This rollout introduces foundational AI-powered features like generative writing tools, image cleanup options, notification summaries, and new capabilities for Siri, marking a subtle yet significant step in Apple’s AI journey.

Starting with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, Apple Intelligence launches with a core set of tools, albeit labeled as “beta.” To access these features, users will need the latest Apple hardware powered by A17 and M-series chips. The AI suite currently supports only US English, with more languages and broader availability expected in 2025. Apple’s AI requires robust chipsets to run efficiently, meaning the features are limited to M1 and newer Mac models, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro series.

Among its initial tools, Apple Intelligence includes “Writing Tools” for summarizing notes and adjusting tones in messages, AI-driven notification summaries, and a Visual Intelligence feature in the camera that identifies objects around the user. These tools are a practical start but not groundbreaking; they set the stage for Apple’s vision of AI integration. Siri’s new look and functions, such as screen-awareness and enhanced app control, are set for gradual rollout throughout 2025, signaling that Apple is taking a phased approach to its AI development.

Apple’s AI ambitions are evolving cautiously but optimistically, with additional updates planned in December. This includes the introduction of ChatGPT-powered capabilities in Siri and expanded language support for regions like Australia, Canada, and the UK. As Apple advances its AI capabilities, it may continue releasing updates that bring these tools closer to the seamless AI experience it’s working to deliver. For now, users can begin experimenting with Apple Intelligence to explore how AI can enhance productivity and usability across Apple’s ecosystem.
