Apple fans, get ready—something’s brewing in Cupertino, and it’s got that signature sleek, minimalist vibe we’ve come to expect from the tech giant. This week, CEO Tim Cook dropped a tantalizing hint on X, posting a cryptic video with the tagline “There’s something in the air” and a simple caption: “this week.” No flashy press conference, no over-the-top teaser campaign—just a quick, casual nudge that’s already sent the internet into a speculative frenzy. So, what’s in store for Apple’s Air lineup? Let’s unpack the possibilities with a little help from the rumor mill and some good old-fashioned reporting.

The MacBook Air seems like the safe bet

If you’re placing bets at the Apple rumor casino, the smart money’s on a new MacBook Air. Why? Well, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman—one of the most dialed-in Apple insiders out there—reported just last month that the company’s been prepping 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air models powered by the shiny new M4 chip. The timing lines up, too; Apple unveiled the M3 MacBook Air around this time last year, sticking to its early spring playbook for laptop refreshes.

For the uninitiated, Apple’s M-series chips have been a game-changer since the M1 debuted in 2020, blending power and efficiency in a way that’s left competitors scrambling. The M4 promises another leap forward—faster performance, better battery life, and maybe even a few AI tricks up its sleeve to keep pace with the generative tech boom. Imagine a MacBook Air that’s still impossibly thin and light but can churn through video edits or machine-learning tasks like it’s no big deal. That’s the kind of upgrade that’d make sense for 2025.

Plus, Cook’s “something in the air” tease feels tailor-made for the MacBook Air. It’s playful, it’s on-brand, and it’s vague enough to keep us guessing without committing to specifics. Classic Apple.

But wait—what about the iPad Air?

Not so fast, though. The Air moniker isn’t exclusive to laptops. Apple’s iPad Air line has been a fan favorite for years, offering a sweet spot between the entry-level iPad and the powerhouse iPad Pro. And here’s where things get interesting: Gurman’s been dropping hints about an iPad Air refresh, too. In a recent Bloomberg tidbit, he noted that Apple’s “beginning to wind down” iPad Air inventory—a telltale sign that new stock’s on the way.

Back in October, Gurman predicted the iPad Air would get some love around the iPhone 16E launch, which hit shelves last month. That didn’t quite pan out, but a March debut wouldn’t be out of character—Apple’s been known to stagger its releases to keep the hype train rolling. What might a new iPad Air look like? Rumors point to a bigger display option (think 12.9 inches, Pro-style), slimmer bezels, and—yep—an M4 chip to match the MacBook. Oh, and maybe a keyboard accessory to sweeten the deal, turning it into a legit laptop rival.

If it’s not a MacBook Air, an iPad Air feels like the next best guess. Cook’s teaser could easily nod to that weightless, “in the air” vibe of a tablet you can toss in a bag and forget about.

The wild card: an iPhone “Air”?

Okay, let’s indulge the dreamers for a sec. There’s been chatter—mostly whispers from the outer edges of the rumorverse—about an iPhone “Air.” Picture this: a super-slim, lightweight iPhone that ditches some of the Pro models’ heft for a back-to-basics design. Maybe it’s a mid-tier option, slotting between the standard iPhone and the Pro lineup, with a price tag that doesn’t make your eyes water.

The idea’s been floating around for a while, fueled by Apple’s love for recycling successful branding (AirPods, anyone?). But here’s the catch: the iPhone 16E just dropped in February, and Apple’s not one to cannibalize its own hype cycle so soon. A new iPhone in March feels like a stretch—unless it’s a curveball like a special edition or a reimagined SE. Still, file this one under “maybe later” rather than “this week.”

Whatever Cook’s teasing, it’s a reminder of Apple’s knack for keeping us on our toes. The Air lineup—whether it’s MacBooks, iPads, or something else—has always been about accessibility: premium tech that doesn’t feel like a luxury splurge. A new M4-powered device could push that ethos further, especially as rivals like Microsoft and Samsung lean hard into AI and hybrid gadgets.

Apple’s notoriously tight-lipped until the big reveal, so don’t expect Cook to spill more on X before the official drop. If history’s any guide, we’ll see a press release or a slick video on Apple’s site later this week—maybe Wednesday, their favorite midweek flex.
