Picture this: you’re on the subway, headphones on, tunes blasting, and suddenly someone taps your shoulder. “Whoa, what are those?” they say, pointing at your ear cups. You smirk, because you’re rocking the MorningBlues VWS X1 headphones—complete with detachable OLED screens flashing a neon graphic that pulses to your music. Yeah, these aren’t your average ear cans. They’re a vibe, a statement, and honestly, a bit of a flex.

MorningBlues, a scrappy little audio startup with big dreams, has dropped the Visual Wireless Stereos X1 (VWS X1), and they’re claiming it’s the world’s first pair of headphones with detachable screens. I mean, we’ve seen wild headphone designs before—looking at you, AirPods Max—but screens you can pop off and customize? That’s next-level.

So, what’s the deal with these futuristic cans? Let’s break it down.

The star of the show here is the detachable 1.3-inch OLED screens—MorningBlues calls them Touchscreen F1 modules. They snap onto each ear cup with magnets, so they’re secure but easy to tug off when you want to swap them out or charge them up. These aren’t just for show (though they do look cool as hell). They’re interactive mini-displays you can swipe, tap, and personalize to your heart’s content.

Want to flash a scrolling “DO NOT DISTURB” message while you’re deep in a podcast? Done. How about a trippy equalizer visual that dances to your beats? Yep. You can even upload your own selfies, GIFs, or a QR code linking to your SoundCloud mixtape. It’s all controlled through the MorningBlues app, which offers four “Creation Buckets” to play with:

  • Vibe portraits: Pre-loaded graphics and funky equalizer animations.
  • Music mode: Real-time visuals that sync to your music’s tempo—think BPM-driven light shows.
  • DIY space: Your sandbox for uploading stickers, short clips, or text. TikTokers, this one’s for you.
  • Flashlight: Turns the screen into a full-color torch. Handy for late-night walks or dramatic selfies.

Each screen runs for about nine hours on its own battery, and they come with a slick puck-shaped charging case packing a 2,500mAh battery—good for two full recharges. Pop them in, plug the case into a USB-C port (the included 1m cable works best), and you’re golden. Oh, and there’s an NFC tap-to-share feature, so you can swap screen designs with a friend who’s also cool enough to own a pair. Cyberpunk vibes, activated.

Under the hood, the VWS X1 is no slouch. It’s rocking a Qualcomm QCC5181 chipset with Bluetooth 5.4, which means fast, stable connections and super-low latency. Gamers, you’ll love this—pair it with aptX Adaptive on Android, and your audio stays in sync with zero lag. iPhone folks get AAC support, which is solid for streaming Apple Music or podcasts.

The codec lineup is impressive: SBC, aptX HD, and more, so you’re getting high-quality sound no matter what device you’re using. Plus, it’s LE-Audio ready, which is Bluetooth’s fancy new standard for the future. The chip also handles Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and cleans up your voice for calls, so you won’t sound like you’re yelling through a windstorm.

Battery life? With ANC off, you’re looking at 60 hours of playback—enough to binge an entire season of The Office and then some. Turn ANC on, and it’s still a beefy 35 hours. Charging takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes, which isn’t lightning-fast but totally reasonable for the juice you’re getting.

At first glance, the VWS X1 looks like your typical over-ear headphones: matte polycarbonate shells, vegan leather ear pads, and a steel-sprung headband that keeps them snug without squeezing your skull. They weigh 308g, which puts them between the Sony WH-1000XM5 (250g) and Apple AirPods Max (385g). Not featherlight, but the screens add some heft—and honestly, it’s worth it for the wow factor.

Comfort-wise, MorningBlues nailed it. The ear pads mold to your ears instead of clamping down hard, so you can wear these for hours without feeling like your head’s in a vise. Perfect for long commutes or late-night gaming sessions. One catch: there’s no IP rating, so don’t wear them in the rain or near a pool. These are tech toys, not tank builds.

Oh, and if you’re old-school, there’s a 3.5mm jack on the left ear cup for wired listening. Rare these days, but a nice touch for studio use or when the battery’s dead.

Let’s talk audio, because flashy screens mean nothing if the sound sucks. The VWS X1 packs 40mm dynamic drivers from Jamo, a Danish audio brand with a rep for crisp, punchy sound. The tuning leans toward popular genres—hip-hop, pop, EDM, R&B—with a warm bass kick and clear mids. It’s not audiophile-flat, but it’s fun and lively, which suits most casual listeners. Jazz or acoustic fans might miss some nuance, but for everyday jams, it’s a win.

The ANC is solid, with three modes: Normal (off), Transparency (hear the world), and Active (block it out). It’s not Bose-level noise-killing, but it’ll hush a noisy subway or office chatter just fine. Transparency mode is great for quick chats without pulling the headphones off. And thanks to multipoint connectivity, you can pair them to your phone and laptop at the same time—seamless switching, no fuss.

These aren’t your “I just need something to listen to Spotify” headphones. The VWS X1 is for the bold—people who treat tech like a fashion accessory and love standing out. Self-expressive types who strut the sidewalk like it’s a runway, TikTok creators flashing their handle, gamers who want low-latency sound and a cool aesthetic. If you’re the kind of person who’d plaster a laptop with stickers, these are your headphones.

They’re also a social flex. The NFC tap-to-share system lets you trade screen designs with other VWS X1 owners, and the DIY options mean you can broadcast your personality—or just troll strangers with a looping “Hi :)” GIF.

The MorningBlues VWS X1, screens and all, retails for $499.99 on their official site. Not cheap, but for what you’re getting (audio plus wearable tech), it’s a solid value.
