After five explosive seasons, “The Boys” has reached its epic finale on Prime Video, and if you’ve been waiting to jump in or catch up on this twisted superhero saga, now’s the perfect time. The show, based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s New York Times best-selling comic series, flips the superhero genre on its head by asking a simple but powerful question: what happens when the people with godlike powers are actually terrible human beings ?

The premise is brilliantly dark. In a world where superheroes are treated like celebrities and managed by a massive corporation called Vought International, a group of ordinary people known as “The Boys” fight back against these corrupt, power-abusing supes. The show stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, a vengeful and relentless leader of the Boys, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, a reluctant hero dragged into this violent world, and Antony Starr as Homelander, the terrifyingly unhinged leader of the Seven who’s basically Superman if Superman were a sociopath.

Season 5 picks up in Homelander’s twisted version of America, where he’s completely in control and running things according to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are locked up in what’s ominously called a “Freedom Camp,” while Annie (Starlight) struggles to organize any kind of resistance against the overwhelming supe force. Kimiko has vanished, and when Butcher resurfaces with a virus capable of wiping all supes off the planet, he sets off a chain reaction that will change everything. It’s the climax fans have been waiting for since 2019, and creator Eric Kripke has promised it’s going to be absolutely massive.

The fifth season premiered on April 8, 2026, with the first two episodes dropping simultaneously. After that initial double-episode launch, Prime Video has been releasing new episodes weekly every Wednesday. Episode 6, titled “Though the Heavens Fall,” arrived on May 6, and episode 7, “The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk,” is set to drop on May 13. The grand finale, episode 8 titled “Blood and Bone,” will stream on May 20, 2026.

But here’s something pretty cool for superfans: before the series finale hits Prime Video on May 20, you’ll actually be able to watch it on the big screen. On May 19 at 9:30 pm local time, the final episode will screen in 4DX theaters across the United States and Canada. These aren’t just regular movie theaters, they’re the ones with moving seats, environmental effects, and immersive sensory experiences that’ll make all the explosions and chaos feel even more intense. Participating theater chains include Regal, AMC, B&B, Marcus, Cineplex, Cinema West, Cinepolis, and Regency. Seats are available with the purchase of a concession voucher that you can redeem for snacks the day of the screening.

Watching “The Boys” is straightforward if you’ve got an Amazon Prime membership. Prime Video comes bundled with your Prime subscription, which in the United States costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually. If you’re a young adult between 18 and 24 or a college student, Amazon offers a discounted Prime for Young Adults membership that starts with a six-month free trial, then costs just $7.49 monthly or $69 per year. There’s also Prime Access for people who receive government assistance, which offers a 30-day trial followed by a $6.99 monthly fee.

All five seasons of “The Boys” are available to stream right now on Prime Video, so if you’re new to the series, you can binge the entire journey from beginning to end. And if you’re already a fan who’s fallen in love with this universe, you can also check out the spinoff series “Gen V,” which has two seasons available, plus “The Boys Presents: Diabolical,” an animated anthology series. Prime Video offers tons of other satirical shows too, including classics like “Reno 911!,” “Community,” and “The Boondocks“.

Beyond just the main Prime membership benefits, the platform gives you access to thousands of movies, series, documentaries, and live sports. You can also customize your viewing experience through Prime Video Subscriptions, which let you add channels like MGM+, Apple TV, HBO Max, Peacock Premium Plus, and Crunchyroll directly to your Prime Video account. Plus, even if you don’t have a Prime membership, you can still rent or buy individual titles through the Prime Video Store, and there are over 900 free ad-supported channels available to everyone.

“The Boys” has been a cultural phenomenon since it first premiered, earning Emmy nominations and developing a passionate fanbase that’s stuck with the show through all its shocking twists, graphic violence, and biting social commentary. The final season promises to bring all the storylines to a satisfying, explosive conclusion, answering the question that’s been building since the very first episode: can ordinary people actually defeat gods? With just two episodes left in the series, fans are about to find out whether Butcher’s desperate plan to eliminate all supes will succeed, and what price everyone will pay along the way.
