We’re all buzzing with excitement about the next Grand Theft Auto game, GTA 6. The wait has been agonizing since the last installment, GTA V, graced our screens in 2013. But hold on to your controllers because there’s been a recent bombshell: an audio recording that claims to spill the beans on GTA 6‘s release plans.

An audio clip pops up online, supposedly featuring Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick talking about GTA 6. According to this mysterious voice, GTA 6 will be dropping during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2025, with an official announcement scheduled for October 23 this year. Sounds amazing, right? Well, not so fast. There are a few red flags waving in the wind.

First off, Strauss Zelnick is known for being super tight-lipped when it comes to revealing Rockstar’s secrets, especially about GTA. He usually sticks to high-level stuff and lets Rockstar do their own thing. So, hearing him spill the beans on GTA 6 is a bit of a head-scratcher.

Then there’s the matter of the audio itself. At one point, the voice in the recording refers to the game as “VI,” which seems a bit off. In today’s world of advanced deepfake technology, it’s entirely possible that someone cooked up this audio to sound like Zelnick.

And let’s not forget the source of the recording. Zelnick usually talks to analysts during Take-Two’s quarterly earnings calls, but the most recent one was on August 8, and this juicy tidbit wasn’t part of it. Take-Two hasn’t hosted any public events this year where this could’ve been said either. So, all signs point to this audio not being the real deal.

It’s no secret that the anticipation for GTA 6 has reached astronomical levels. It’s been nearly a decade since the last game, and fans are getting a bit restless. The excitement has even spilled over into real-life incidents, like that Gamescom stage-crasher who yelled, “Bill Clinton wants to play GTA 6!” Then there was that hacker who claimed to have broken into Rockstar’s vault and spilled the beans on the game.

So, what’s the real deal with GTA 6? Well, it’s definitely in the works, and it’s likely not too far off. Take-Two has hinted that it might drop in late 2024 or early 2025. Strauss Zelnick mentioned during an earnings call in August 2023 that fiscal 2025 (from April 2024 to March 2025) could be a big deal for the company. Many believe this could be the GTA 6 release window because, let’s face it, GTA is a money-making monster for Take-Two.

But here’s the kicker: Zelnick has emphasized that Rockstar is aiming for perfection with GTA 6. He wants it to be something groundbreaking, something we’ve never seen before. And if there’s one thing we’ve learned from Rockstar, it’s that they take their time to craft masterpieces.
