Back in May at its annual I/O conference, Google unveiled a nifty new feature for Google Photos called Ask Photos, and guess what? It’s finally rolling out to a select group of users! This clever addition, powered by Google’s Gemini AI, allows you to search for your photos using natural language—no more scrolling through endless albums just to find that one perfect snapshot.

The rollout of Ask Photos has been spotted by 9to5Google and Android expert Mishaal Rahman. However, it’s important to note that, for now, the feature is only accessible to some users in the US who signed up for the waitlist. What’s particularly intriguing is that this feature is being delivered as a server-side change. So, regardless of what version of Google Photos you have, you might just wake up one day to find that your photo search game has been leveled up!

So, how does it work? Well, Ask Photos lets you dive into your photo library using plain, conversational language. At the time of its reveal, Google showcased some fun examples like “What’s my license plate number?” and “Show me the best photo from each national park I’ve visited.” It even allows you to include searches for loved ones—think of it as your own personalized digital assistant for nostalgia!

Imagine you’re reminiscing about that family vacation or trying to locate that fantastic sunset shot you captured last summer. With Ask Photos, you can simply ask, “Show me pictures of my dog at the beach,” and voila! You get a curated collection of relevant photos, all thanks to the power of natural language processing.

While this feature is still in its initial rollout phase, it has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with our photos, making it easier than ever to relive those special moments. If you’re one of the lucky few who has access, dive in and start exploring your memories in a whole new way! And if you haven’t received it yet, hang tight; it looks like Google is planning to expand this feature to more users in the near future.
