According to a recent report, Elon Musk may be planning to violate Apple‘s App Store rules by forcing all Twitter users to opt into personalized ads in order to use the app.
This move is reportedly part of Musk’s efforts to save money for Twitter, which recently lost significant ad revenue after he promised subscribers to the $8/month Twitter Blue service would see half as many ads as free users.
The report also suggests that Musk is willing to break the law in order to achieve his cost-cutting goals, including refusing to pay severance to laid-off employees and not paying rent on Twitter’s offices (via NYT).
It is unclear how this move would be possible on iPhone without breaking Apple’s app review guidelines. This would mark another potential battle between Musk and Apple after he recently made up with Tim Cook following his previous accusations that Apple was opposed to free speech.
