Apple’s just dropped the iPhone 16, and it’s bringing some fresh updates to the table. If you’ve been holding out for a new phone, this might be the one to snag.
First off, the iPhone 16 comes in a range of eye-catching colors that are a bit more vibrant than what we’ve seen in recent years. The design also gets a bit of a throwback with its updated dual-camera setup, arranged vertically just like the iPhone 12 from 2020.
Under the hood, the iPhone 16 packs some serious upgrades. It’s powered by the new A18 chip, built on a 3nm process, which promises a nice bump in performance. The CPU is 30% faster than the iPhone 15’s, and it uses 30% less power. The GPU is even more impressive, with a 40% speed increase and 35% less power consumption. This should help Apple deliver on its promise of improved battery life.
Gaming fans will be pleased to hear that the A18 chip supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, making the iPhone 16 a great choice for playing AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4, which were previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro.
One of the standout features is the new Camera Control button. Located just below the power button, this physical button allows you to swipe and tap to control the camera app, or press it slightly to snap photos. It’s a small touch, but it could make taking pictures even easier.

The iPhone 16 also brings a lot of new tech to the table. It’s the first mainstream iPhone to get a taste of Apple Intelligence in beta, with a full rollout expected in October. This includes a new feature called Visual Intelligence, which lets you search for information based on what your camera is seeing—a handy tool that’s a bit like Google Lens.

The camera system itself has received a nice upgrade. The dual setup features a 48-megapixel main camera and a new autofocusing ultra-wide lens. There’s also a 2x crop mode and a macro mode, which means you get the equivalent of four lenses in one setup.
In terms of displays, the iPhone 16 keeps the 6.1-inch screen size for the standard model and a 6.7-inch screen for the Plus version. Both screens are capable of reaching up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness and can dim down to just 1 nit.

Design-wise, the iPhone 16 stays pretty close to the iPhone 15. It has a squared-off frame, rear glass for MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, Apple’s Dynamic Island cutout for the front camera and Face ID, and a USB-C port for charging and data. The vertical camera arrangement might seem like a step back, but it actually supports spatial photos and videos, which are compatible with the Apple Vision Pro.
If you’re eyeing the new iPhone, it starts at $799 for the 128GB model and $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus. Both will be available starting September 20th, with preorders kicking off on September 13th. So, mark your calendars and get ready to upgrade!
