Apple’s latest AI-driven features, called “Apple Intelligence,” are set to expand to iPhones and iPads in the European Union (EU) by April 2025. This rollout brings a suite of new tools that Apple promises will transform the way users interact with their devices. Apple Intelligence, currently available in the U.S., is part of iOS 18’s core features and combines improvements to Siri, text generation tools, and even an upgrade to emojis called Genmoji.
Key among the changes is a Siri revamp that allows more conversational interactions, including follow-up questions and better handling of complex requests. Through deeper integration with OpenAI‘s ChatGPT, Siri can now generate more sophisticated responses, with the flexibility of typing responses in public settings—a useful feature for discretion in crowded environments. Another much-anticipated update is the enhanced text summarization feature in Apple’s Mail and Safari Reader, aimed at condensing long articles or emails into digestible overviews.
Apple’s AI features aren’t just stopping at text and voice; they’re venturing into visual capabilities too. Visual Intelligence will allow users to identify objects, landmarks, and even text in real-time through the camera, similar to Google Lens but optimized for the Apple ecosystem. This feature is part of iOS 18.2 and will initially be exclusive to the latest iPhone and iPad models. Also notable is the generative emoji function—Genmoji—allowing users to create personalized, AI-powered emojis, from a guitar-playing frog to a skateboarding dinosaur.
For those eager to try out Apple Intelligence before April, the latest macOS update (macOS Sequoia 15.1) offers some of these features on Mac, such as AI-powered writing tools and smart mail summaries. Additionally, English-speaking users in Australia, Canada, and several other regions will receive localized access by December, which Apple plans to coincide with further updates to iOS 18.2.
