Apple has decided to enable its suite of AI features, collectively known as Apple Intelligence, by default starting with the upcoming iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3 updates. This change was first highlighted in the release candidate notes, spotted by 9to5Mac.

Previously, users had to opt into these AI capabilities. Now, with these updates, Apple Intelligence will automatically be switched on during the setup or upgrade process. This means that when you’re setting up a new device or updating your existing one to the latest software, you’ll immediately have access to AI-driven features like notification summaries, Image Playground for creating images, and text rewriting tools, unless you choose to disable them.

This update will only apply to devices that are compatible with Apple Intelligence. This includes:

• iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro and subsequent models.
• iPad: iPads with the Apple Silicon M1 chip or later, including the latest iPad mini.
• Mac: Macs equipped with the M1 or later processors.

How to opt out?

For those who prefer not to use Apple Intelligence, turning it off is straightforward but requires manual intervention. After updating your device to one of these versions, you’ll need to navigate through the settings:

• Go to Settings.
• Select Apple Intelligence & Siri.
• Locate and toggle off the Apple Intelligence switch.

This action will disable the AI features, ensuring that your device does not utilize them unless you decide otherwise in the future.
