Acer has unveiled two new additions to its gaming handheld lineup at CES 2025, with the spotlight firmly on the Nitro Blaze 11. This device isn’t just another entry into the handheld gaming market; it’s a bold statement of “go big or go home.”

Imagine for a moment, the size of your average gaming handheld. Now, triple that in your mind’s eye. That’s what you’re dealing with here. The Nitro Blaze 11 sports a colossal 10.95-inch screen, which makes it more of a tablet than a traditional handheld, at least in terms of screen real estate. To give you a sense of scale, here’s a photo of someone barely managing to hold this behemoth:

This screen isn’t just about size; it’s a 120 Hz WQXGA touch display with a peak brightness of 500 nits. This means your games will look crisp, vibrant, and smooth, perfect for those who prefer a more immersive gaming experience without needing a full-blown gaming laptop.

The person is wearing a light-colored, textured shirt and a bracelet on the left wrist. The handheld gaming PC is prominently displayed, with the word "NITRO" visible on its back. The scene is illuminated by soft, ambient lighting, creating a serene and modern atmosphere.

Under the hood, the Nitro Blaze 11 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 8840HS processor, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage options that can go up to 2TB. These specs suggest that Acer isn’t just playing with size; they’re aiming for performance that can keep up with the demands of modern gaming.

A unique feature of the Nitro Blaze 11 is its detachable controllers, echoing the functionality of the Nintendo Switch, but on a much larger scale. There’s also a built-in kickstand for those who want to prop it up and play in a more relaxed setting, Hall Effect joysticks for precision control, and two new back buttons for additional gameplay options. These features weren’t present in the original Nitro Blaze 7, which had a more modest 7-inch screen.

For those who find the Nitro Blaze 11 a bit too unwieldy, Acer hasn’t forgotten you. They’ve also released the Nitro Blaze 8, with an 8.8-inch display, which, while still on the larger side compared to other handhelds, is a bit more manageable. It shares many of the high-end components with its bigger brother but does without the detachable controllers and the kickstand.

A person is relaxing in a hammock outdoors, holding an Acer Nitro Blaze 8 handheld gaming PC. The screen of the device displays an intense gaming scene featuring a character facing off against a large, fiery monster. The setting appears to be a sunny, wooded area, suggesting the portability and convenience of the gaming device for outdoor use.

Both devices are slated for a Q2 2025 release. The Nitro Blaze 11 will set you back $1,099.99, a price that reflects its premium and somewhat niche appeal. Meanwhile, the Nitro Blaze 8 comes in at a more consumer-friendly $899.99.

Keep an eye out for these devices; they might just change how you think about playing games away from your desk.
