Anthropic, the AI research company, has introduced desktop applications for its AI chatbot, Claude, now available for both Mac and Windows users. These applications can be downloaded for free from Anthropic’s official website.

The desktop version offers functionalities similar to the web-based platform, allowing users to ask questions, access previous conversations, and view starred chats. The primary advantage lies in the convenience of initiating interactions directly from the desktop, eliminating the need to navigate through a web browser.

In addition to the desktop applications, Anthropic is enhancing its mobile apps by introducing dictation support. This feature enables users to interact with Claude using voice commands, streamlining the user experience on both Android and iOS devices.

It’s important to note that the recently announced “computer use” feature, which allows Claude to control computer actions such as moving the cursor, clicking buttons, and typing text, is not included in the desktop applications. This capability remains in public beta and is accessible via Anthropic’s API for developers.

Anthropic’s move to provide desktop applications aligns with industry trends, as other AI chatbots like OpenAI‘s ChatGPT and Perplexity’s AI search engine have also released desktop versions. Microsoft‘s Copilot is integrated into Windows 11, reflecting a broader shift towards more accessible and integrated AI solutions across various platforms.
