Google Vids now lets users adjust the playback speed of individual video clips directly in its editor, making it easier to fine-tune scene timing without relying on third-party video editing software.
Announced on October 23, 2026, the update introduces playback speeds ranging from 0.25x to 2x. Users can slow footage down to emphasize detailed steps in a tutorial or speed it up to shorten demonstrations and remove unnecessary pauses.
The feature could be particularly useful for teams creating software walkthroughs, training materials, and presentations. Slower playback helps viewers follow intricate on-screen actions, while faster clips can keep longer demonstrations moving.
Google is gradually rolling out the feature to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with visibility taking up to 15 days. The rollout began on October 16, 2026.
Playback speed controls are available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. No administrator controls or end-user settings are required.
