Google Sheets now supports box and whisker charts, giving users a built-in way to visualize statistical distributions without relying on helper formulas. The new chart type automatically calculates key statistical values from raw numeric data, making it easier to analyze data variability and identify outliers.
Announced on October 22, 2026, the feature lets users visualize a dataset’s minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, maximum, mean, and outliers. Users can also choose between inclusive and exclusive quartile calculations and customize whether to display inner data points, outliers, mean markers, and mean lines.
The update also improves compatibility with Microsoft Excel. Previously, importing an Excel file containing a box and whisker chart into Sheets would remove the chart. Now, Sheets preserves imported charts along with their data references, calculations, and formatting. Charts created in Sheets can also be exported to Excel as editable box and whisker charts.
Google is gradually rolling out the feature to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts. The rollout began on October 22 for Rapid Release domains, while Scheduled Release domains are set to begin receiving it on November 6. Both rollouts may take up to 15 days for the feature to appear.
