Apple has unveiled the new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its M6 chip, bringing a faster CPU and GPU, upgraded on-device AI capabilities, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and up to 24 hours of battery life. Announced today, October 27, 2026, the new laptop is aimed at students, developers, creative professionals, and business users who need performance for demanding workflows.
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and will be available in Space Black and Silver. Preorders open on October 28, with sales beginning November 6.
M6 chip brings faster performance and AI capabilities
The new MacBook Pro features Apple’s M6 chip, built around a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Compared with the previous-generation M5, Apple claims the new chip delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster performance for on-device AI workloads.
The CPU also gains two additional cores compared with M5, while the GPU includes Neural Accelerators in every core. These accelerators are designed to speed up AI-intensive tasks such as image generation, large language model processing, and image upscaling.
Apple says the Dual 16-core Neural Engine delivers up to 1.9 times the performance of the M5 generation for supported workloads. The hardware is designed to support Apple Intelligence features, Siri AI, and running compatible AI models locally on the Mac.
For users upgrading from a MacBook Pro with M1, Apple claims substantially larger gains, including up to 11 times faster graphics performance and up to 13 times faster performance for certain AI tasks. Actual results will vary depending on the workload, software, and configuration.
Memory, storage, and battery life
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts with 16GB of unified memory, configurable up to 32GB. Apple also lists memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s, which can help with multitasking and memory-intensive applications.
Apple has equipped the laptop with faster storage to help users work with large files, export creative projects, and run demanding AI workflows. Specific storage capacities and configuration-dependent pricing are available through Apple’s online store.
Battery life is another major part of the update. Apple rates the new MacBook Pro for up to 24 hours on a charge, describing it as the longest battery life ever offered in a Mac. The company also says the laptop maintains consistent performance whether it is connected to power or running on battery.
Liquid Retina XDR display and connectivity
The new MacBook Pro retains Apple’s Liquid Retina XDR display, with a nano-texture option for users who want to reduce reflections. The display is designed for professional work involving photographs, video, graphics, and other visual content.
Other hardware features include a 12MP Center Stage camera, a six-speaker sound system, and a selection of ports for connecting peripherals and external displays.
Connectivity receives an upgrade with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. These standards provide support for newer wireless networks and accessories, although real-world performance depends on compatible equipment and network conditions.
The laptop will be available in Space Black and Silver, continuing the established MacBook Pro design rather than introducing a completely new exterior.
macOS 27 and Apple’s AI features
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27, bringing Apple’s latest operating system to the updated hardware. Combined with the M6 chip’s Neural Accelerators and Neural Engine, the laptop is positioned to handle Apple’s AI features alongside demanding creative and development applications.
The ability to run compatible AI models locally may also appeal to developers and users who want to process certain workloads on their own computers rather than relying entirely on cloud-based services. Supported features and performance will depend on the software and model being used.
MacBook Pro with M6: Price and availability
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999. Buyers can choose between Space Black and Silver, with additional memory, display, and storage options depending on the configuration.
Preorders begin Wednesday, October 28, at 10:10 am Pacific Time through Apple’s online store. The laptop will go on sale Friday, November 6.
With the M6 upgrade, Apple is focusing on faster processing, stronger graphics performance, and more capable on-device AI while retaining the 14-inch MacBook Pro’s professional display, camera, speakers, and connectivity. For users moving from an older Apple silicon Mac, particularly an M1 model, the company is promising substantial performance gains alongside longer battery life.
