YouTube is giving its Playables collection a more educational and creative twist with six new games that combine entertainment with learning, music-making, scientific reasoning, and mindfulness. The new lineup brings together YouTube and several educational organizations and creators, turning subjects that might otherwise feel like classroom exercises into interactive gaming experiences.
Announced on October 28, the additions were developed in collaboration with Black Girls Code, The Jed Foundation, Khan Academy, Math with Mr. J, TED-Ed, and Veritasium. Rather than focusing exclusively on conventional puzzles or casual entertainment, the games introduce different ways to explore ideas, develop skills, and take a break.
Six new YouTube Playables to try
The new collection covers a surprisingly broad range of interests, from producing music and solving physics puzzles to practicing guided breathing.
SuperNova, created by Black Girls Code, puts players in the role of helping Nova prepare for a gig after her bandmates cancel. Players can audition replacement musicians, experiment with different beats, and unlock secret choruses. It brings music exploration into a game built around creativity and experimentation.
For something more relaxing, Reset Mode from the Jed Foundation offers guided breathing and mindfulness exercises. The experience is designed to help players de-stress, recharge, and take a mental break, making it a different kind of addition to a gaming collection.
Science gets its own interactive experience through Newton’s Glider, developed by Khan Academy. Players steer pucks through directional force puzzles, testing their understanding of inertia and basic physics through hands-on challenges.
Math with Mr. J introduces Lure of the Labyrinth: Vending Machine, developed in partnership with Maryland Public Television, the MIT Education Arcade, and FableVision Studios. The game challenges players to help a monster purchase a snack by figuring out the value of different coins. It turns mathematical reasoning and problem-solving into a puzzle with a practical objective.
Music returns in BackTrack Pro, presented by TED-Ed. This experience is aimed at aspiring musicians who want to understand how chord progressions work and how different chords can be combined to construct a song.
Finally, Elements of Truth from Veritasium challenges players to put their scientific reasoning to the test. Based on Veritasium’s trivia game, it introduces confidence-based scoring, encouraging players to consider not just whether an answer is correct but also how confident they are in their reasoning.
YouTube wants Playables to be more than casual games
The latest additions reflect a broader approach to YouTube Playables. Instead of treating the feature as simply another destination for passing time, YouTube is bringing educational content, creative experimentation, and mindfulness into its gaming lineup.
The six experiences also show how different organizations can use interactive games to introduce their subjects to a wider audience. Players can explore physics without working through a traditional lesson, experiment with music without needing an instrument, or practice mindfulness without leaving YouTube.
For YouTube, this creates a more varied Playables collection that can appeal to people looking for something beyond conventional mobile-style games. And for educational creators and organizations, it offers another way to turn their expertise into experiences that people can actively participate in rather than simply watch.
All six titles are available through the new YouTube Playables lineup. You can find the individual games through the links in YouTube’s official announcement.
