The gaming landscape has seen a massive boom in recent years, with established giants and unexpected newcomers all vying for a piece of the action. Now, YouTube is throwing its hat into the ring with the official launch of its Playables program, offering a library of free, casual games directly accessible through the popular video platform.

How to play games on YouTube Playables

For those eager to jump in, playing Playables is as simple as visiting the YouTube website or opening the app on your Android or iOS device. Once there, look for the “Playables” section within the navigation bar. Here, you’ll be greeted by a selection of over 75 games, ranging from timeless classics like chess and crosswords to popular mobile titles like Angry Birds Showdown!, Trivia Crack, and Cut the Rope.

This move signals a significant shift for YouTube. While the platform has always hosted countless gaming-related content, Playables marks a foray into directly offering interactive experiences. The program not only caters to the growing demand for casual gaming but also allows users to seamlessly switch between watching and playing within the YouTube ecosystem.

Interestingly, this isn’t YouTube’s first attempt at game integration. Back in 2023, the platform offered a limited Playables beta program exclusively to YouTube Premium subscribers. This initial phase was restricted to a smaller selection of titles and concluded in March of this year.

The wider rollout of Playables suggests YouTube is confident in the program’s potential. With a broader audience and a more extensive game library, YouTube is making a serious bid to capture a slice of the casual gaming market.
