Apple released the latest version of iOS, the iOS 16 for iPhone 8 & later iPhone models on Sept. 12, 2022, and it included a number of new features. In this article, I will talk about the some of iOS 16 features that you must try after installing iOS 16 on your iPhone.

If you haven’t updated your iPhone yet, then do this now, but note that iOS 16 requires iPhone 8 or later models.

Here is how you can download and install the iOS 16 update on your iPhone:

Tap the Settings icon from your iPhone and click General from the listed menu, then tap the Software Update. The screen shows the currently installed version of iOS and whether an update is available. If iOS 16 is available for your device, click on Install Now button. The iOS 16 will then be downloaded and installed on your iPhone.

(Tip: To get Automatic Updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates. Then turn on Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates.)

I’ve tried to highlight a few features that can have the biggest impression on how you use your iPhone because it can be hard to try to understand everything that has changed. Here are 5 features you must try after installing iOS 16 on your iPhone, and you might be loving it:

  1. #1 — Fully customizable Lock Screen
  2. #2 — Personalize your Notifications in a new style
  3. #3 — Organize medications in the Health app
  4. #4 — Create smart Focus Filters
  5. #5 — Enable Battery Percentage indicator

#1 — Fully customizable Lock Screen

The fact that you can now customize your Lock Screen is one of iOS 16’s biggest features. You can now add widgets to your Lock Screen in addition to new font and color options, making it simpler to access information without having to unlock your iPhone.

You can start to customize your iPhone lock screen by doing this: Press and hold on to the Lock Screen and this customizable lock screen is yours. You can choose to modify the image or add widgets there. You can even design your style lock screen with a variety of backgrounds. To change, simply touch the display (I mean press and hold for a second) and then swipe.

#2 — Personalize your Notifications in a new style

Staying with the Lock Screen, the notifications now show up at the bottom of the screen, which is a significant change. Additionally, there are three options available for how notifications are displayed.

A stack is the default option, but you may also select a list or what Apple refers to as a count. The latter option hides all notifications and shows a count at the bottom of the Lock Screen so you can see how many notifications you now have. Simply swipe up to see what’s there.

#3 — Organize medications in the Health app

Setting up your daily medications in the Health app should be your final step if you take them. You can now track your medications right on your iPhone with iOS 16 (and your Apple Watch).

You can either manually enter them or set them up so that the name and dosage of the medication are automatically entered once you scan the label. If you take several various medications, you can choose the shape and color of each one to make it simpler to identify.

You can then log and track when you’ve taken your medication after receiving a notification based on the time you take it. You may easily export a PDF with a complete list of your drugs and their dosages from the Health app, which will also give you information on common interactions.

#4 — Create smart Focus Filters

Focus Filters is another cool feature in iOS 16, it improves the usefulness of setting a Focus and handling notifications. Now, depending on the Focus you select, you can choose to display a specific Watch face, Lock Screen, and Home Screen on your iPhone. Additionally, you have complete control over which accounts are accessible in various apps like Calendar and Mail.

#5 — Enable Battery Percentage indicator

iOS 16 - Battery Percentage Indicator

One of the best things you can do with iOS 16 enables the battery % indicator, which I’m sure some of you will find interesting. The small battery icon in the upper right corner of iOS 16 would slowly decrease, giving you an indication of how much battery power your iPhone still had.

To enable the battery percentage indicator, go to Settings then Battery, and then toggle the Battery Percentage.
