Windows 11 ditches Mail and Calendar apps in favor of web-based Outlook in 2024
SHARE

Microsoft today revealed that the Windows Mail and Calendar apps, which have long been a staple of the Windows operating system, are set to be replaced by a web-based version of Outlook starting in 2024. This significant shift reflects Microsoft’s commitment to streamlining its email and calendar services, providing users with an enhanced and unified experience across their devices.

Microsoft has been diligently working on developing the new Outlook experience, which has been in testing for some time now. By harnessing the power of the web, this revamped version of Outlook aims to provide users with a more feature-rich and efficient email and calendar solution. Starting next year, new Windows PCs will come preloaded with the web-based Outlook as the default email and calendar app.

For those eager to get a glimpse of the new Outlook prior to its official rollout, Microsoft is offering a preview option. Windows 11 users can explore the new Outlook by accessing the “Try the new Outlook” toggle within the current Mail or Calendar app. This enables users to familiarize themselves with the upcoming changes and provide valuable feedback to help Microsoft refine the user experience.

The transition to web-based Outlook brings a host of new and improved features to the table, designed to enhance productivity and streamline communication. Users can expect an intuitive and visually appealing interface, making it easier than ever to navigate through emails, schedule appointments, and manage tasks. The new Outlook is optimized for both touch and traditional input methods, ensuring a seamless experience across a wide range of devices.

One of the key advantages of web-based Outlook is its ability to seamlessly synchronize across multiple platforms. Whether accessing your email and calendar from a Windows PC, a mobile device, or through a web browser, web-based Outlook will provide a consistent experience, ensuring that important information is always up to date, regardless of the device being used.

Microsoft has placed a strong emphasis on security and reliability with the new Outlook. Leveraging the company’s extensive experience in cloud services, the web-based Outlook incorporates robust security measures to safeguard user data and protect against emerging threats. With built-in advanced threat protection and multi-factor authentication options, users can rest assured that their sensitive information remains secure.

Additionally, by transitioning to a web-based platform, Microsoft aims to ensure a more reliable experience for users. By leveraging the power of the cloud, users will no longer need to worry about data loss due to local device issues or system failures. With emails, contacts, and calendar events stored securely in the cloud, users can access their information from any compatible device, reducing the risk of data loss and enabling seamless continuity of productivity.
