A mockup image of showing blue verification badge for Uber riders. A smartphone displaying a map application with a route highlighted in blue, indicating a trip from one location to another. The screen shows an estimated time of arrival of 3 minutes, and the path suggests turns and street names. Additionally, there is a fare estimate of $16.05 labeled as ‘Verified’ at the bottom of the screen, along with details of the trip including a 7.3-mile distance and an estimated travel time of 20 minutes. The starting point is E 61st St & Rhodes Ave, IL, and the destination is S Cottage Grove Ave & 62nd St, IL.

Think blue checks are just for celebs? Uber’s got a new feature that’s bringing the social media verification trend to your rides.

Starting this week, passengers can get a blue “Verified” badge on their Uber profile. It’s like a digital ID card that tells drivers, “Hey, this person is who they say they are.”

How does it work? Basically, Uber checks your account info against other databases or lets you upload a photo of your ID. Pass the verification test? Boom, you’ve got the blue badge.

Uber’s got a whole FAQ section on their website if you want to dive into the details.

What about passenger behavior? Uber’s not just focusing on verification. They’re also keeping an eye on how passengers behave. If you’re a bit of a pain in the neck, they might send you a warning. And if you’re really bad, drivers can block you.

Safety first. Uber has been working hard to make rides safer. They’ve already got features like audio recording, pin verification, and RideCheck (which helps detect if something’s off during your ride).

Big news. Just a few days ago, Uber announced some major changes coming soon: driverless rides in Austin and Atlanta, and the ability to rent a car straight from the Uber app.

So, what do you think? Is Uber’s new verification feature a good idea?
