NVIDIA GeForce NOW adds official Firefox support with 1440p, 120 FPS streaming

More than 2,000 games are accessible through GeForce NOW on Firefox, drawing from libraries on Steam, Epic, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, and Xbox PC Game Pass.

GeForce NOW has finally arrived on Firefox for Windows, giving Mozilla’s browser a seat at the cloud-gaming table after years of user requests. The practical pitch is straightforward: open a browser, sign into NVIDIA’s service, and stream supported PC games without installing them locally or owning a high-end gaming rig.

For Firefox users, the news is more significant than it may first appear. GeForce NOW has long been built around the idea that the game does not have to run on the machine in front of you. Instead, NVIDIA runs it in a remote data center and sends the video stream back to your screen while your controller, keyboard, and mouse inputs travel in the other direction. The result, when the connection is good enough, is a surprisingly conventional PC gaming experience delivered through a tab.

Mozilla says Firefox on Windows can now access more than 2,000 PC games through the service, including titles tied to libraries and storefronts such as Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, and Xbox PC Game Pass. That last detail matters. GeForce NOW is generally not an all-you-can-play catalog in the Netflix sense: users typically connect game-store accounts and stream titles they already own or can otherwise access through a supported subscription.

The timing also feels right. Cloud gaming has spent years promising to turn almost any screen into a gaming machine, but the browser remains its most useful front door. No client installation, no 100GB download, no waiting for a patch to finish just as friends are asking you to join. A reasonably modern Windows laptop that would struggle to run a demanding new release locally can instead act as a video endpoint while NVIDIA’s hardware handles the rendering elsewhere.

Mozilla and NVIDIA say the Firefox version is not simply a compatibility switch flipped overnight. Cloud gaming is a tough workload for a web browser because latency is the whole game. A small delay in a spreadsheet does not matter; a small delay in a first-person shooter, racing game, or action title absolutely does. The companies describe the launch as the outcome of months of engineering work aimed at meeting the responsiveness and visual-quality bar players expect.

For GeForce NOW Ultimate members, Firefox can stream at up to 1440p and 120 frames per second. That is an important headline because browser-based cloud gaming has often meant accepting a compromise in picture quality or smoothness. At the higher settings, though, the connection requirements become serious: NVIDIA recommends 35 Mbps for 1440p at 120 fps and says latency to an NVIDIA data center should remain below 80 milliseconds. It also recommends wired Ethernet or 5GHz Wi-Fi, which is the difference between cloud gaming feeling effortless and feeling like a fight with your router.

That caveat is worth underlining. Firefox support does not magically make every Windows PC and internet connection a premium gaming setup. Network stability matters as much as headline download speed, especially in homes where video calls, streaming TVs, smart-home devices, and other players compete for bandwidth. But for people with a solid connection, the browser route removes a surprising amount of friction from PC gaming.

It is also a small but meaningful win for browser choice. Before this launch, a Firefox user interested in GeForce NOW had a familiar set of options: install NVIDIA’s dedicated app or switch to another supported browser for the web version. Now Firefox can stay at the center of the desktop workflow. Mozilla leans into that broader use case, pointing to the reality that gaming rarely happens in isolation – Discord may be open beside the game, a guide may be sitting in another tab, and a forum thread may be one alt-tab away.

There is a broader message here, too. High-performance web applications are increasingly challenging the old assumption that the browser is only where you read, shop, and watch. Browser tabs are now workspaces, media players, development environments, AI interfaces, and, increasingly, game clients. For Firefox, which has spent much of the past decade competing for relevance against Chromium-based rivals, landing a major cloud-gaming service is a practical demonstration that its underlying web platform can handle a demanding, real-time consumer workload.

Getting started is deliberately simple: update Firefox on a Windows PC, visit play.geforcenow.com, and sign into a GeForce NOW account. The service’s quality, available session lengths, and premium features depend on the membership tier and the user’s network, but the core change is that Firefox is now officially part of the supported-browser lineup.

In a market full of promises about gaming everywhere, this is not a revolution on its own. It is something more useful: one less reason for Firefox users to change browsers, download another app, or treat their preferred browser as a second-class gaming option.
