When it comes to mainstream wireless headphones and speakers, Sony is switching things up. The company just announced a slew of new audio products, accompanied by the introduction of a fresh brand: ULT Power Sound. This new moniker signals a clear departure from Sony’s historic tendency to simply refer to devices by their model numbers – a welcome change for those seeking a more user-friendly approach.

At the core of Sony’s ULT Power Sound lineup lies an unwavering focus on lively, bass-forward sound. Each product boasts a ULT button that cycles through different sound modes, allowing you to dial in your desired level of bass emphasis. The ULT1 mode promises “deeper, lower frequency bass,” while ULT2 delivers “powerful, punchy bass.” According to Sony, there’s a discernible difference in the overall EQ between these two modes, essentially positioning ULT as the next generation of the company’s previous Extra Bass technology.

Sony ULT Tower 10 Bluetooth karaoke party speaker

Leading the charge is the gargantuan ULT Tower 10, a party speaker that commands attention with its 64-pound heft and $1,199.99 price tag. This behemoth packs all the party tricks you’d expect: music-synced lights, an included microphone for karaoke sessions, omnidirectional sound, and, of course, those ULT1 and ULT2 sound modes – if you really want to rattle the walls. With a staggering 34 LED light zones, Sony describes the ULT Tower 10’s sound as “overwhelmingly powerful.”

Sony ULT Field 7 Wireless portable Bluetooth karaoke party speaker

For those seeking a more portable option, Sony has unveiled the ULT Field 7, their new flagship Bluetooth speaker that succeeds the SRS-XG500. Priced at $499.99 and measuring over 20 inches wide, this speaker is no featherweight, but its integrated handles make transporting it a little less burdensome. With a promised battery life of up to 30 hours (25 hours with lighting and ULT modes enabled), a seven-band EQ for audio customization, and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, the ULT Field 7 is designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor adventures.

Sony ULT Field 1 wireless ultra portable Bluetooth compact speaker

If portability is a top priority, the $129.99 ULT Field 1 might be more your speed. Available in black, gray, green, and orange, this compact speaker packs a punch with its strong bass output. While it only offers a single ULT sound mode, it can still deliver up to 12 hours of continuous listening pleasure. It also doubles as a speakerphone – a handy feature for those on the go – and comes equipped with a built-in strap for easy attachment to your bag.

Sony ULT Wear wireless noise canceling wireless headphones

Rounding out the lineup is the ULT Wear, a new set of headphones that replaces Sony’s WH-XB910. At $199.99, these cans inherit several features from the premium 1000XM5 model, including on-ear detection, upgraded noise cancellation, head-tracking spatial audio, and faster quick charging. However, the star of the show is the driver, which Sony claims was specifically designed for deep bass response. During a brief hands-on session a few weeks ago, the ULT1 and ULT2 modes were admittedly a bit too bass-heavy for my taste, but there’s undoubtedly an audience of bassheads who will appreciate the ULT Wear’s thunderous low-end.

Sony’s entire ULT Power Sound collection is slated to hit the market this spring, with the exception of the ULT Field 1, which is scheduled for a summer release. Whether you’re planning a backyard bash or simply seeking an audio experience that packs a visceral punch, Sony’s latest offerings aim to shake things up – quite literally.
