Sony has officially unveiled its 2024 BRAVIA TV lineup, and it’s clear the electronics giant isn’t holding anything back. From blistering bright Mini LED flagships to revamped OLED offerings and even innovative new audio products, Sony is aiming to outshine the competition on all fronts.

Leading the charge is the spectacular new BRAVIA 9 series, Sony’s brightest 4K TVs to date. Utilizing advanced Mini LED backlighting with up to 325% more dimming zones than last year’s models, the BRAVIA 9 is a luminance powerhouse capable of hitting searing highlights while still delivering inky black levels.

But the BRAVIA 9 isn’t just about raw brightness. Sony says it employs similar display technologies found in professional Hollywood color grading monitors, theoretically allowing it to reproduce content with benchmark accuracy to the creator’s true vision. From the biggest summer blockbusters to artfully mastered indie films, the BRAVIA 9 promises to bring that authentic cinematic experience home like never before.

The BRAVIA 9 will be available in an expansive 85-inch size ($5,499) followed by 75-inch ($3,999) and 65-inch ($3,299) models.

Sony BRAVIA 8 OLED TVs

While the BRAVIA 9 aims for absolute picture perfection, Sony’s new BRAVIA 8 OLED takes things in a more aesthetic direction. The successor to last year’s well-received A80L OLED, the BRAVIA 8 keeps the series’ excellent image quality intact while introducing a radically slimmer design that’s 31% thinner than before with bezels reduced by 29%.

The addition of Sony’s new Voice Zoom 3 feature, which allows dialogue to be isolated and adjusted without affecting other audio, is another perk for the new OLED. But with only minor brightness boosts over its 2023 predecessor, the BRAVIA 8 will likely continue to be a great-looking but slightly overpriced option compared to rivals from LG and Samsung in the same midrange OLED space.

Sizing for the BRAVIA 8 OLED includes 77-inch ($3,899), 65-inch ($2,799), and 55-inch ($1,999) models.

Sony BRAVIA 7 QLED Mini-LED TVs

Rounding out Sony’s premium QLED selection is the new BRAVIA 7 series. Designed as a more wallet-friendly take on the BRAVIA 9’s lavish picture capabilities, the BRAVIA 7 uses a QLED panel with Mini LED backlighting and local dimming, albeit with fewer zones and less peak brightness than its flagship sibling.

Even so, Sony promises BRAVIA 7 performance on par with last year’s stellar (if ultra-premium) X95L QLED, making this new 2024 model a potentially great value option for those seeking high-end pictures at lower prices. The catch? Like most Sony LCD TVs, the BRAVIA 7 will likely cost a bit more than similar featured sets from budget brands while offering perks like enhanced processing and build quality.

The BRAVIA 7 QLED will come in an 85-inch size ($3,499) as well as 75-inch ($2,799), 65-inch ($2,299), and 55-inch ($1,899) variants.

Sony BRAVIA 3 Smart LED TVs

Rounding out Sony’s 2024 BRAVIA TV range is the entry-level BRAVIA 3 LED series. As a direct-lit LED LCD sans extras like local dimming or quantum dots, the BRAVIA 3 is expected to offer fairly basic HD/SDR image quality geared more toward simple streaming, cable viewing, and bright rooms.

While likely reliable for its intended use case, the BRAVIA 3 is sure to be outclassed by similarly priced models from value brands that pack in more premium display technologies for the money. But for buyers just looking for a basic smart TV from a reputable brand, it’ll get the job done.

The low-frills BRAVIA 3 LED TV will be available in an expansive size range of 85-inch ($1,799), 75-inch ($1,299), 65-inch ($999), 55-inch ($849), 50-inch ($699), and 43-inch ($599).

But perhaps the biggest surprise from Sony’s BRAVIA reveal was the company’s first foray into audio products under the premium BRAVIA brand name. From a pair of powerful soundbar/subwoofer combos to unique TV speaker alternatives, Sony is leaving no doubt it’s just as serious about home theater audio as it displays.

The top dog of Sony’s inaugural BRAVIA audio range is the flagship Theater Bar 9 soundbar, a 13-driver Dolby Atmos beast with dedicated upfiring, side-firing, and wireless rear surrounds available for true 360-degree sound (pricing $1,399). Below that is the more modest but still formidable Theater: Bar 8 ($999), a 9-driver bar that can also leverage the new wireless surrounds and wired subwoofer add-ons.

But the real head-turner is the innovative BRAVIA Theater Quad, a set of four powered “ambient” speakers designed to be mounted around a room for an enveloping sound akin to a surround setup without all the wiring hassle. At an MSRP of $2,499, it’s premium home audio made (relatively) simple.

If that’s still too much for your space, Sony is even offering a personal audio solution dubbed the Theater U “neckband” speaker ($299). Similar to wearable audio products from Bose and others, this unique device lets you enjoy movies and shows without disturbing others or covering your ears.
