Samsung, a South Korean company announced on Wednesday that all of its 5G devices will receive 5G software updates by the middle of November 2022. Samsung India also stated that it is cooperating closely with telecom operators in the country to roll out over-the-air (OTA) updates.

“Samsung has pioneered 5G technology development since 2009 and took the leading role in standardizing 5G technology globally. In India, Samsung has the widest portfolio of 5G devices. We are working closely with our operator partners and are committed to rolling out OTA updates across all our 5G devices by mid-November 2022, enabling Indian consumers to experience 5G seamlessly,” a Samsung India spokesperson in a statement.

This follows Apple’s earlier announcement that it is working with carrier partners in India to provide iPhone users with the “best 5G experience” “as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance is completed.”

This comes a day after a report stated that the Indian government is likely to force premium phone makers such as Apple and Samsung to speed up the release of updates to support 5G airwaves in their devices.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services in India on October 1 at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022, with one of the leading telcos, Bharti Airtel, announcing the launch of 5G in eight Indian cities on the same day. However, Airtel claims that Apple’s latest top-tier iPhone 14 series and Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S22 line do not currently support 5G airwaves.

Bharti Airtel previously confirmed at the sixth edition of India Mobile Congress 2022 that it will launch 5G services in the country, beginning with select cities. The telecom giant has confirmed that it will begin rolling out 5G in eight cities on October 1.

Airtel is launching 5G telecom services in eight cities today, including four metro cities, with the entire country covered by March 2024, according to company chairperson Sunil Bharti Mittal at the IMC 2022 in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Reliance Jio is also offering unlimited 5G data to select customers in four cities who have a 5G smartphone during the beta trial.
