On Monday, May 12th, at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT, Samsung will pull back the curtain on its much-anticipated Galaxy S25 Edge during a virtual Unpacked event. The announcement, teased earlier this year, has had tech enthusiasts buzzing with speculation about what this sleek new device might bring to the table. A recent blog post from Samsung dropped a few tantalizing details, but the full picture will only emerge when the livestream hits platforms like Samsung’s YouTube channel. For now, let’s unpack what we know—and what we’re dying to find out—about the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Samsung isn’t mincing words: the Galaxy S25 Edge is being positioned as a game-changer. The company’s blog post declares that the device “not only sets a new standard for what you can achieve with your smartphone, but it also unlocks a new era of growth for the mobile industry.” That’s a hefty promise, especially in a smartphone market that’s been grappling with stagnant sales and innovation fatigue.

What makes the S25 Edge stand out? For starters, it’s a slim phone with flagship credentials. Samsung promises “flagship-level performance with superior portability,” a combination that’s tricky to nail. Thin phones often sacrifice power, battery life, or features to achieve their svelte profiles, but Samsung seems confident it’s cracked the code. One concrete detail from the blog post: the S25 Edge will sport a 200-megapixel main camera, a feature it shares with the top-tier Galaxy S25 Ultra. That’s a bold move, suggesting the Edge isn’t just a stylish sidekick but a premium contender in its own right.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is entering a niche but competitive space. Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air, expected to debut later this year, is another slim phone generating buzz. According to leaks, the iPhone 17 Air might lean toward a mid-range feature set, potentially with a single rear camera and a mix of high- and low-end specs. If true, Samsung’s decision to equip the S25 Edge with a high-end camera and flagship performance could give it an edge—pun intended—over Apple’s offering. But the devil’s in the details, and we don’t yet know how the S25 Edge’s slim design will balance other critical factors like battery life or processing power.

Samsung’s track record with slim devices is mixed. The Galaxy Z Fold series, while innovative, hasn’t exactly been a poster child for portability due to its bulk when folded. The S25 Edge, by contrast, seems to be a direct response to consumer demand for sleek, pocket-friendly devices that don’t skimp on power.

Samsung’s blog post was light on specifics, leaving plenty of questions unanswered. How much will the Galaxy S25 Edge cost? Will it be priced closer to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, given its premium camera, or will it slot in as a more affordable alternative? For context, the Galaxy S25 Ultra typically starts around $1,200, while mid-range devices can dip below $800. The S25 Edge’s price will be a critical factor in whether it can spark the “new era of growth” Samsung is banking on.

Availability is another mystery. Rumors suggested a staggered launch, with South Korea potentially getting the S25 Edge first and the US facing a delay. However, Samsung US’s current promotion—a $50 credit for those who reserve the phone now—signals confidence in a stateside release. That’s good news for American fans, but global availability remains unclear. Will the S25 Edge hit markets like Europe and India simultaneously, or will Samsung prioritize key regions? Monday’s Unpacked event should shed light on these logistics.
