Saving the world from a dying star just got a lot easier—at least for those of us watching from the couch.

Space exploration hasn’t felt this tangible—or this emotionally resonant—in quite a while. When Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel Project Hail Mary hit theaters back in March, it became an undeniable phenomenon. Audiences flocked to IMAX screens to watch Ryan Gosling as a middle-school-science-teacher-turned-astronaut, Ryland Grace, tasked with saving a dying sun alongside a fan-favorite alien rock-spider. It was a visual marvel that ended up grossing over $683 million worldwide, cementing itself as one of the biggest box office success stories of 2026. But if you missed that epic theatrical window, or if you’ve just been waiting to relive those zero-gravity mechanics from the comfort of your living room, the wait is officially over.

As of July 3, the critically acclaimed space drama has finally made its global streaming debut on Prime Video. Because the film was such a massive earner in cinemas, Amazon MGM Studios naturally held off on the free-streaming drop for as long as possible. Now, anyone with a standard Prime membership can fire up the two-hour-and-36-minute epic at no extra cost. This comes just as the studio begins to rev up its early awards season campaign, with industry insiders already tipping the film for Best Visual Effects and Adapted Screenplay. For home viewers, Amazon hasn’t skimped on the presentation either; the movie is available in stunning HDR UHD with immersive Dolby Atmos sound, complete with a massive suite of global audio dubs and subtitles ranging from Hindi and Malayalam to French and Japanese.

Watch on Prime Video

The road to a traditional streaming release was actually a bit of a maze for cord-cutters. Back on May 12, the film first popped up on digital retail platforms as a premium video-on-demand (PVOD) rental. From there, following the exact same playbook Amazon used for recent theatrical hits like Challengers, the movie took a brief, exclusive detour to the niche service MGM+ in mid-June. If you refused to add yet another monthly subscription fee to your budget just to see Ryan Gosling do orbital math, your holdout strategy worked perfectly. Prime Video is now the permanent home for the film for the foreseeable future, and new or returning subscribers can always use a 30-day free trial to watch it without dropping a dime.

If you don’t happen to be a Prime subscriber and aren’t interested in signing up for one, you still have plenty of straightforward ways to watch. The premium digital prices have dropped significantly since their initial launch in May. You can currently rent Project Hail Mary for a very reasonable $5.99, or buy it permanently for $12.99 across all the major digital storefronts. Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google Play, and YouTube all have the film available at these newly discounted price points. If you do go the rental route, just keep in mind you’ll have the standard 30-day window to hit play, and 48 hours to finish it once you start.

Whether you’re tuning in for the first time to see what all the hype is about, or you’re returning to catch the finer details of the CGI space horizons, Project Hail Mary is arguably the definitive home-theater event of the summer. It’s rare to see a massive blockbuster that balances laugh-out-loud humor, rigorous hard science, and a genuinely touching interspecies friendship without missing a single beat. Now that it’s finally just a click away, there’s no better time to clear your evening, dim the lights, and take the trip.
