One of Steam’s most popular titles is making its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, following its tremendous success during the Early Access phase on the PC platform.

The year has already been a treat for horror aficionados, with the highly anticipated Dead Space remake haunting our screens, and the immensely popular Resident Evil 4 thrilling fans. But the excitement doesn’t end there. The upcoming release of Alan Wake 2 on October 17 has gamers buzzing with anticipation. Drawing inspiration from the critically acclaimed TV series True Detective, director Sam Lake promises a game that is accessible to newcomers to the franchise. From what we’ve seen so far, it appears to be a chilling blend of The Last of Us and Resident Evil. And to add to the excitement, the beloved Steam horror game Phasmophobia has also been confirmed for a console release.

For those unfamiliar with Phasmophobia, it is a spine-chilling 4-player cooperative horror experience. As reported by GameRant, the game initially launched in 2020 and has since been in Early Access on PC. However, its popularity has led to its expansion onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and even the highly anticipated PS VR2. Described as a psychological horror game, Phasmophobia immerses players in the eerie world of ghost hunting. As part of a team, you must employ various paranormal detection equipment to uncover and confront a wide array of hair-raising ghosts.

Currently, Phasmophobia features 10 hauntingly atmospheric locations, each housing 20 unique types of ghosts. As the game progresses beyond Early Access, it is likely that the number of locations and ghost variations will expand further. Impressively, the game has already garnered a remarkable review score of 96% on Steam. Players have commended its captivating atmosphere and immersive gameplay. One user commented, “Phasmophobia is a great game to play. It gives me the chills while providing my friends with plenty of laughter.” Meanwhile, another player humorously remarked, “I can lock the door on my friends and watch them meet their doom at the hands of the vengeful ghosts.” Perhaps it’s best to steer clear of playing with such a mischievous companion.

While an exact launch date for the console release of Phasmophobia has yet to be announced, it is expected to arrive in August 2023. Despite the impending console launch, the game will continue to be available in Early Access, allowing players to witness its continued evolution and improvement.

With the arrival of Phasmophobia on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, horror enthusiasts can look forward to a bone-chilling and adrenaline-pumping experience that will undoubtedly solidify its place among the most memorable horror games of this generation.
