Microsoft is gearing up to introduce a groundbreaking AI feature into its Outlook email platform. This development is part of the company’s broader strategy to integrate AI tools for corporate users.

The tech giant’s latest feature, Microsoft 365 Copilot, aims to become an indispensable “everyday AI companion” for corporate users. This intelligent tool assists users in crafting concise and error-free emails while also providing summaries of lengthy email threads, enabling users to draft prompt and relevant responses.

For subscribers with Microsoft 365 Personal or Family plans, an even more advanced tool, Microsoft Editor, will be available. This intelligent writing assistant not only suggests edits for clarity and conciseness but also ensures the use of inclusive language, helping users create polished and professional emails. Microsoft’s official blog post in September highlighted these features, underlining the company’s commitment to enhancing the quality of communication in professional settings.

The rollout of these AI tools for Outlook is scheduled to begin on November 1, marking a significant step in Microsoft’s endeavor to integrate artificial intelligence seamlessly into its productivity suite. Several prominent companies, including Visa, General Motors, KPMG, and Lumen Technologies, have already participated in extensive testing phases, indicating the tool’s viability and effectiveness.

Microsoft’s initiative aligns with its broader strategy outlined in March, wherein the company pledged to incorporate artificial intelligence into its flagship productivity tools such as Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. The introduction of the AI-powered “copilot” function, capable of editing, summarizing, creating, and comparing documents, is particularly noteworthy. This technology shares its foundation with ChatGPT, a viral AI chat tool developed by OpenAI, further underscoring the innovation’s potential.

Beyond email composition, Microsoft 365 users can expect a myriad of functionalities. The AI tools facilitate the summarization of meetings, generate suggested follow-up action items, create specific Excel charts upon request, and transform Word documents into PowerPoint presentations within seconds. Corporate clients will also benefit from Microsoft 365 Chat, previously known as Business Chat, which acts as a personalized secretary. This feature scans internet sources, employee emails, meetings, chats, and files, streamlining administrative tasks and enhancing productivity.
