Apple TV just dropped the trailer for “Last Seen,” and if you’re a fan of slow-burn, emotionally wrecking thrillers, you’ll want to clear your calendar for Wednesday, September 9. That’s when the series makes its global debut with a two-episode premiere, followed by fresh episodes every Wednesday through October 7, 2026.

At the center of it all is Patrick Brammall, who plays police detective Ian Ridley, a man whose entire world caved in eleven years ago when his young daughter Maggie vanished without a trace. He’s since traded his detective badge for a desk job as a police dispatcher, but the disappearance never really left him. When a distress call comes in from a teenage girl he’s convinced is Maggie, he throws caution to the wind to track her down and put his shattered family back together, no matter what it costs him. It’s the kind of premise that instantly hooks you, because who hasn’t wondered what they’d do if a decade-old wound suddenly reopened with a shot at closure?

Brammall might be a familiar face if you’ve watched “Colin from Accounts” or caught him in “Evil,” and he’s also set to appear in “The Devil Wears Prada 2“. He won a Gotham Award for his work, so it’s safe to say he knows how to carry a role that demands both restraint and raw emotion.

“Last Seen” isn’t just riding on Brammall’s performance, though. The series is adapted from “The Dispatcher,” a novel by Ryan David Jahn, who’s won the CWA John Creasey Dagger Award, and the adaptation itself comes courtesy of Kris Mrksa, known for “Requiem” and “No Escape“. Directing duties fall to Christian Schwochow, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker whose credits include “The Crown” and “Munich: The Edge of War,” and he’s also executive producing. The whole thing was shot entirely in Victoria, Australia, giving it that distinct Aussie thriller texture that’s become something of its own subgenre lately.

The supporting cast is stacked too. Maxine Peake, who you might recognize from “Say Nothing” and “Black Mirror,” joins alongside Brendan Cowell (“Dune: Prophecy“), Daniel Henshall (“Mickey 17“), Zahra Newman (“Thirteen Lives“), and newcomer Chloe Jean Lourdes rounding things out. Behind the scenes, it’s produced by 60Forty Films, the team responsible for “Slow Horses” and “Hijack,” alongside Joanna Werner’s Werner Film Productions, which has “The Newsreader” and “Riot” on its resume.

This drop fits neatly into a pattern Apple’s been building for a while now. The streamer has quietly assembled one of the stronger thriller catalogs around, with “Hijack” starring Idris Elba, the multi-award-winning “Slow Horses” led by Gary Oldman, and “Down Cemetery Road” featuring Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson. Apple TV has racked up 857 wins and over 3,800 award nominations across its original content since launching in 2019, and shows like “Severance,” “The Studio,” and “Pluribus” have kept it firmly in the cultural conversation.

If you’re thinking about checking it out, Apple TV runs $12.99 a month with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers, and it’s available across basically every screen you own, from iPhone to smart TVs to gaming consoles. Worth noting: if you’ve recently bought a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K, or Mac, you might already qualify for three free months.

“Last Seen” lands at a good moment too, arriving right on the heels of Apple’s announcement that it’s reteaming with Alfonso Cuarón for a new series called “Ascension,” so the platform’s thriller and drama pipeline is clearly staying busy heading into fall. Between the premise, the cast, and the pedigree behind the camera, this one looks like it could be a genuine sleeper hit once word gets around.
