Early buyers of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have reported that the shaky video is caused by the main lens of the back camera vibrating uncontrollably in third-party apps with camera functionality, like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. The built-in Camera app doesn’t seem to be impacted by the problem.

It’s likely that a software fault is causing the “second generation” sensor-shift optical image stabilization on the main lens of iPhone 14 Pro models to misbehave, but this is just theory.

According to YouTuber Luke Miani, he ran into the problem on one of the iPhone 14 Pro Max devices he was testing. He posted a video of the problem (we’ve added his video, check it above, watch it from 18:27 or check his tweet added after this video), in which the device’s main lens is shown uncontrollably vibrating.

He claimed that as a result of the incident, the lens has since been unable to focus correctly, even when used in the Camera app. Miani claimed that he was able to exchange the iPhone for a new one after taking it to an Apple Store.

If a software bug is a reason for the problem, Apple will solve it in the iOS 16.1 beta.

For now, owners of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max should avoid opening the camera in apps like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram until the issue is resolved.
