Google has begun rolling out ChromeOS M131 to the masses, introducing features that not only enhance the user experience but also prioritize accessibility and security. Among the highlights are the new “Safety reset” functionality and an innovative “Flash notifications” option, both of which are designed to make your Chromebook experience smoother and more inclusive.

Safety reset

If you’ve ever experienced the frustration of dealing with a Chromebook that’s acting up – perhaps displaying unwanted pop-ups or showing signs of malware infection – you’re likely familiar with the ‘Powerwash’ option, ChromeOS‘s traditional full factory reset. However, with ChromeOS M131, Google introduces the “Safety reset” feature, which provides a less invasive solution.

Safety reset is tailored for those moments when your device seems compromised but you don’t want to lose all your local data, apps, bookmarks, or saved passwords. To initiate a Safety reset, users can press the shortcut CTRL + Shift + Search + R, or navigate through the “Safety and privacy” settings menu. Flash notifications

Google continues to push the envelope on accessibility with the introduction of “Flash notifications” in ChromeOS M131. This feature is a boon for users who might not catch regular notifications due to hearing impairments or those who rely on screen magnification.

Located under the accessibility settings in “Audio and captions,” Flash notifications allow the screen to flash briefly when an alert pops up.
